Week 2

[The second week in the Champion Excellence Program kicks off on a somber note. Chitanda, Toby, the Griffin- all three of them gone, two of them in one fell swoop. If anyone thinks to check the profiles on their P.I.P.s they will find that the dearly departed Champions' profile photos have been greyed out.

Right on the dot at 7 am the mechanical woman's voice chimes to awaken the remaining champions on Sunday morning, as she has for the past week. After the initial wake-up call though there's a new message tacked on:]

Congratulations, Champions! By surviving your first trial, you have unlocked the second floor of the ship. A new mini map has been added to your P.I.P.! To access the second floor please stand on the teleporter and select the floor you wish to be teleported to.

[The new floor isn't the only thing floating around the ship though, at least metaphorically. When the Champions are awakened they have regained one new memory from the ones they've lost. Starting again on Sunday, as well, Jamie and Bolton will be back to their usual office hours in their usual locations.]

Whatever is available. Even that poor excuse for food from the kitchen would be fine.

[And his expression actually is one of respect now. Seriously, this is quite the favor to be willing to help him not break more rules. If it wasn't for that stupid message and rule 3, he'd have camped out on the second floor instead.]

[Despite her cold demeanor at times, she's not a dick like Togami would be.]

Right. I'll be back in a bit.

[Bolton can't stop her. She's back fairly soon with a plate from the diner, a burger with extra bacon (blame Jane) and fries all over. And it comes with a vanilla shake. (sans bacon)]

Thought you'd like something that doesn't taste like cardboard.

[He'll be sitting by the time she returns, but then stand up with some rather quick movement once he sees her.]

I do. It's really appreciated. [And he actually sounds sincere. He might not be human, but he still needs food as well. He'll grab a couple of fries right away and eat them along with taking a sip of the shake. Yes, he was definitely getting quite hungry and also couldn't risk having Margulis sneak him food again after recent events.]

[Lightning doesn't really care if the Overseers get mad at her for bringing McBurn food. They were all in this together, so why let someone starve? Besides. He was actually pretty useful during dodgeball.]

This sabotage system is ridiculous...

[He's doubting the point was to let him starve and it was more to either push him towards breaking a rule, limit movement, or even just to stop him for long enough for someone to get the drop on him.]

Honestly I find it amusing. I have very little attachment to my world and I'm far from an ideal target for someone looking to murder. Unless the intention was to inspire me to break rule six.

[He'll go ahead and grab a few bites of the burger now. He definitely suspects the person who is behind this didn't expect that he'd rather starve himself than lose control of his emotions and break a rule that could get him killed.]

[Rule six...] I'm more likely to break that rule than you are. I'd love to take a few swings at Bolton and Jamie if I could. Mostly Bolton.

[She moves to lean against a wall, crossing her arms.] If this was like back home there wouldn't be anything able to hold me back...

If this was like back home I'd have teleported out of here already.

[He takes another sip of the milkshake.] Even without that, there's little my fire can't reduce to cinders.

Teleport. [Why does that tickle the back of her mind?]

I prefer using thunder myself.

I see our names are quite fitting then.

What? Are you like me and chose your name?

It was given to me when I was taken in by Ouroboros. Some of us take new names because it's better if the rest of society thinks of us as dead.

Sounds like something a criminal would do.

[almightyconflagration]

It's better than being dead for real. [He's not commenting on being a criminal or not, because he is and the nature of what he's done is better kept to himself.]

[She wouldn't care even if he was a criminal. They're all victims here.] I can agree with you on that one. Though you and I have vastly different reasons for our names. I threw my old one away.

[He's only keeping quiet because he knows it would make him a likely suspect between being a criminal and having no morality.]

[She would only suspect him if the proof was conclusive.]
