Week 2

[The second week in the Champion Excellence Program kicks off on a somber note. Chitanda, Toby, the Griffin- all three of them gone, two of them in one fell swoop. If anyone thinks to check the profiles on their P.I.P.s they will find that the dearly departed Champions' profile photos have been greyed out.

Right on the dot at 7 am the mechanical woman's voice chimes to awaken the remaining champions on Sunday morning, as she has for the past week. After the initial wake-up call though there's a new message tacked on:]

Congratulations, Champions! By surviving your first trial, you have unlocked the second floor of the ship. A new mini map has been added to your P.I.P.! To access the second floor please stand on the teleporter and select the floor you wish to be teleported to.

[The new floor isn't the only thing floating around the ship though, at least metaphorically. When the Champions are awakened they have regained one new memory from the ones they've lost. Starting again on Sunday, as well, Jamie and Bolton will be back to their usual office hours in their usual locations.]

I had thought these suits were only of the Overseers' design. If ever a woman wore breeches on the plantation, they'd have had her in the stocks.

Well. [She pulls at her own shorts.] These are the clothes I used to run in. We wore full length pants in colder weather, both men and women.

[curdle]

[ Thomasin had been mostly looking at her face. Now, she finally notices how short Kurumi's shorts are, which by her standards is frankly unbelievable. Her cheeks go slightly pink. ]

Dress has changed so much. [ She pauses and touches the top of her head. ] It still feels strange to go hither without a cap. And... you ran all together? And none feel shame?

[Kurumi feels bad for mentioning it. God, Thomasin... Are you okay?]

Well... Yeah. That's what we did. We ran around the field a few laps. Though, mostly we did it separately since men and women have different speeds.

[POOR PURITAN.]

[ She's never okay, let's be honest!! But compared to the overt obscenity of Cards Against Humanity and the vulgar things she's actually seen thus far, a simple description of running in shorts isn't so bad. Thomasin tries, despite her obvious discomfort, to understand what she's getting at. ]

That is true. [ wrt the men and women having different speeds bit ] And such exercise of the body is part of your schooling?

[At least track is... actually pretty hands off. Running for the sake of running.]

Yeah. It's optional but I liked it.

[Also a cute boy was doing it.]

It sounds... nice.

[ This sounds surprisingly wistful and genuine, and then she remembers the shorts and adds quickly: ]

Thy school! I should rather not such garb. [ hmm ] But the game yesterday was not so bad as I'd thought -- even if we lost.

[She laughs, waving her hand.]

Yeah, I get you. School's pretty different but it was fun.

Then our new rooms must be a boon to you. Yurika said the recorders in the music room are used in schooling too? But it sounded... unpleasant.
