Week 2

[The second week in the Champion Excellence Program kicks off on a somber note. Chitanda, Toby, the Griffin- all three of them gone, two of them in one fell swoop. If anyone thinks to check the profiles on their P.I.P.s they will find that the dearly departed Champions' profile photos have been greyed out.

Right on the dot at 7 am the mechanical woman's voice chimes to awaken the remaining champions on Sunday morning, as she has for the past week. After the initial wake-up call though there's a new message tacked on:]

Congratulations, Champions! By surviving your first trial, you have unlocked the second floor of the ship. A new mini map has been added to your P.I.P.! To access the second floor please stand on the teleporter and select the floor you wish to be teleported to.

[The new floor isn't the only thing floating around the ship though, at least metaphorically. When the Champions are awakened they have regained one new memory from the ones they've lost. Starting again on Sunday, as well, Jamie and Bolton will be back to their usual office hours in their usual locations.]

[You know who else is at the showers on the dot? Natsuhi. Because she wanted to wash in peace. She's spent the last thirty years with her own bathroom, now all she has is cubical for a few minutes.

At least she was only halfway out the suit when she heard someone else enter.

...That doesn't stop her from screeching and backing into her choose shower.]

[ oh no, it's someone reacting in a way she would actually expect ]

Pray forgive me! I came only to clean out the showers after yesterday's punishment.

[The screaming abruptly stops. She's still hiding though, even after she stops shuffling about she doesn't come out.]

...You're early.

[curdle]

We rose earlier on the farm, most days, [ she says, truthfully. ] Ought I leave? I'd not look, but 'tis a trial to keep modest here, I know.

[There's a noise, that might have been a chuckle.] I wish my daughter was so quick to get up in the mornings...

Thank you. I'll be out of the way in a moment.

[curdle]

[ sadly Thomasin actually will respect her boundaries and leave but I want to keep the thread going so after she does they can just talk in the cafeteria! or I'll just tag you on this week's log instead. ]

I just need to tend to the... [ she searches for a description ] cleaning things. It would go ill if any trod in them. [ OR DRANK THEM. While she starts gathering up the sponges and bleach or whatever she asks: ] How old is she? Your daughter.

['Respect her boundaries!' Wow, she doesn't even get that back home. She's just going to rearrange herself and come back out. She can leave the shower for one morning.]

I'm surprised the others aren't here helping. How disorganized...[She clicks her tongue.] She turned 18 this summer. You wouldn't believe that if you saw how she acted though...

[curdle]

That fault is mine. [ She shrugs sheepishly. ] I thought to let them rest while they still can. And some should not have stirred even if I did try.

[ It's McBurn. She's talking about McBurn. ]

I am sorry. 'Tis not easy to separate from one's kindred.

I can guess who that some is. [Not surprised at all.] We should have made a schedule. We should do that anyway.

[She just wants to wash in peace, why is that so hard.]

You must miss your parents too, being alone at your age must be tough...

[curdle]

Well... [ yes ] I am near enough to womanhood. And even younger girls are bound out in service, or fostered up in strange homes. But 'tis not the same as this separation.

No, it isn't. If it was like that, we would have had some warning, no matter how little.
