Week 2

[The second week in the Champion Excellence Program kicks off on a somber note. Chitanda, Toby, the Griffin- all three of them gone, two of them in one fell swoop. If anyone thinks to check the profiles on their P.I.P.s they will find that the dearly departed Champions' profile photos have been greyed out.

Right on the dot at 7 am the mechanical woman's voice chimes to awaken the remaining champions on Sunday morning, as she has for the past week. After the initial wake-up call though there's a new message tacked on:]

Congratulations, Champions! By surviving your first trial, you have unlocked the second floor of the ship. A new mini map has been added to your P.I.P.! To access the second floor please stand on the teleporter and select the floor you wish to be teleported to.

[The new floor isn't the only thing floating around the ship though, at least metaphorically. When the Champions are awakened they have regained one new memory from the ones they've lost. Starting again on Sunday, as well, Jamie and Bolton will be back to their usual office hours in their usual locations.]

You'll have to ask Bolton or Jamie about that. Jamie is a better bet. Maybe they can set you up with some ingredients.

I doubt it'd be as easy as asking them, though - but at least Mister Jamie is significantly less likely to turn that into "Oh, well, if you'd like to bake a cake, then murder someone and you'll get the ingredients" when compared to Mister Bolton. And honestly, cake is not worth killing someone over.

[That would become her favorite show ever.]

.... unless it's a damn good cake. [Jane better be able to tell that's a joke with the smirk Light has on her face.]

[She can, and she chuckles. Harmless jokes about cake are always a-okay.]

It had better of been made with the highest grade ingredients, and be dusted with edible gold leaf, sitting on a plate made of diamonds, and whatever other ridiculously ludicrous finishing touches that would make it worth trillions of dollars for me to even consider such a thing!

[Which is to say, from her silly grin, that's never going to happen ever.]

[Good. Jokes are great. Jokes are not something Light does often.]

Platinum is worth more than gold. As is adamantine. [The last one is from her world.] Gimme a cake covered in those two and we've got a deal.

I haven't heard of that other one, but platinum at least is quite the pretty metal - that I'll take over gold, I suppose.

[Just pushes the metaphor further into audacity]

It's also a lot more useful for things like weapons if you know how to use it.

[Stop, Lightning. Stop.]

That's true. Gold may look pretty, and I...think it's used in electronics, a little? But other than looking super flashy, it can't be of much use in a fight, can it?

[No go on, please, teach her]

Gold is too soft. Even when it's ornamental, there's only so much damage it can take before it bends and chips. Those fancy gold weapons? Plated. There's steel under those. But you're right. [She will teach all she knows if you let her.] Gold can be used in electronics. It doesn't corrode as quickly, so it's used in our comm devices back home.

What a waste, then - you spend all that money on a flashy sword and by the end of the day, it's covered in nicks and such. Even if it's core is steel, that sort of things' got to impair how well you can use it, right?

It depends. If you can fuse the gold with another metal and don't mind it being duller, you could avoid nicks and such. If you want it shinier, all you have to do is make sure to polish it. Seems vain, but it's good weapon maintenance to keep everything clean. Even if it is meant mainly for decoration. [Though-] You could use magic fused attacks and be fine.

[cyan_maid]

Weapon maintenance makes sense - I mean, something's not going to work very well if you don't take care of it, I can understand that. [Though, uh...] Is...magic-based weaponry common where you're from?

[You still didn't show her cool magic stuff yet]

No. It's more infusing magic into an attack using the weapon to deliver the hit. I can fuse Thunder magic into my sword for an attack called Sparkstrike. It's both a physical and a magical attack, so twice the hitting power.

[Well, all Jane has to do is ask for a demo when she wants one.]

Oh...I see. That must be quite useful if you're dealing with something that might not respond to one kind of attack on its own.

[Worlds with video game logic unite?]

I'd still like to see some of your magic sometime.

It's saved our lives more than once.

[Behemoth anyone?]

The gym is the safest place to use it.

Then I suppose I'll have to ask you to show off if we're ever in the gym.

[Like next week when Jane is full of delicious self-loathing.]

I can arrange that.
