Week 2

[The second week in the Champion Excellence Program kicks off on a somber note. Chitanda, Toby, the Griffin- all three of them gone, two of them in one fell swoop. If anyone thinks to check the profiles on their P.I.P.s they will find that the dearly departed Champions' profile photos have been greyed out.

Right on the dot at 7 am the mechanical woman's voice chimes to awaken the remaining champions on Sunday morning, as she has for the past week. After the initial wake-up call though there's a new message tacked on:]

Congratulations, Champions! By surviving your first trial, you have unlocked the second floor of the ship. A new mini map has been added to your P.I.P.! To access the second floor please stand on the teleporter and select the floor you wish to be teleported to.

[The new floor isn't the only thing floating around the ship though, at least metaphorically. When the Champions are awakened they have regained one new memory from the ones they've lost. Starting again on Sunday, as well, Jamie and Bolton will be back to their usual office hours in their usual locations.]

In my case... it's keeping five people safe, and rescuing two others.

[And millions of innocent people.]

And I thought three was bad enough.

[It's not like she could have saved the rest of her town...or the world...]

The five with me can fight. [This might make her sound less cold and distant since there's a hint of a smile.] But they're my friends. We're supposed to protect each other.

[That's not something that she has called a lot of people in her life.]

My club can hold their own. Well. Miki can and Rii-san is smart enough to stay out of trouble. Yuki, though... [She stops and wait. Did she say friend? Is Lightning all right?] That's what friends are for.

[Lightning is fine. She's actually quite happy remembering her friends. Hoping they are okay. They're strong. They can hold on without her for a while.] You can tell just how good of a friend they are if they stand beside you when everything gets rough.

You really can. Even if they can't really fight. [Yuki is a great friend. Just. Not the most competent person.]

When you get back home, you should teach your friend how to fight.

No, I don't think I should.

[.... seems to be a bad subject. She won't push it.] That's your choice then.

Yuki's... I dunno how to say it nicely. She's just not all there some days. Teaching her to fight just seems like a bad idea.

So shock got to her. [That's hard.]

Yeah. She's getting better but I don't think she'd make it during a fight.

Can she set least defend herself or knows how to run and hide?

She's fast and knows when trouble is coming.

Sounds like you can use her as some kind of radar.

We could but I think Rii-san would have a heart attack.

Just don't tell her then.

[She's not being serious of course.]

Rii-san finds out about everything.

Sounds like a natural detective.

More like a mom.

Ah... [That's enough on that.] What about the others?

Yuki's pretty energetic. Not very smart half the time but she keeps us smiling. The last member is Miki. She's just a year younger than the rest of us but you'd never guess that. [Glancing at Lightning she gives a shrug. Now that she thought about it, Lightning reminded her a lot of Miki. Serious to a fault, always looking forward.] Exact opposite of Yuki. It's funny seeing 'em together.

Your friend Yuki sounds like a friend of mine... except Vanille is rather intelligent. Sure doesn't act like it. [Vanille is precious.]
