Week 2

[The second week in the Champion Excellence Program kicks off on a somber note. Chitanda, Toby, the Griffin- all three of them gone, two of them in one fell swoop. If anyone thinks to check the profiles on their P.I.P.s they will find that the dearly departed Champions' profile photos have been greyed out.

Right on the dot at 7 am the mechanical woman's voice chimes to awaken the remaining champions on Sunday morning, as she has for the past week. After the initial wake-up call though there's a new message tacked on:]

Congratulations, Champions! By surviving your first trial, you have unlocked the second floor of the ship. A new mini map has been added to your P.I.P.! To access the second floor please stand on the teleporter and select the floor you wish to be teleported to.

[The new floor isn't the only thing floating around the ship though, at least metaphorically. When the Champions are awakened they have regained one new memory from the ones they've lost. Starting again on Sunday, as well, Jamie and Bolton will be back to their usual office hours in their usual locations.]

Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday

[ooc: welcome to week 2, everyone! Check-in has begun and don't forget to submit your memory regains!]

He's also been nothing but annoying. [He takes a bite of the chicken now.]

Very eager and that means he must know a lot more about what I am than I thought. If I'm going to commit murder, I'd prefer it to be because I personally chose to stop holding back against a worthy opponent. He's trying to cause that by toying with me.

[Still, so far McBurn is doing a tolerable job keeping himself under control. The lazy act works quite well to keep him apathetic and unable to lose control and change into a demon. But he's getting the idea that if things keep up as they are, he won't be able to keep it up.]
misplacedxsheath: (Hmmm...I'll consider it.)

[personal profile] misplacedxsheath 2017-02-23 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I suspect he knows a lot about all of us. Provoking a reaction from a fire user is risky, as it ordinarily only takes one impulsive action, but I wouldn't be surprised if he has defenses if his own.

[personal profile] almightyconflagration 2017-02-24 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
It's more risky when I could lose control and become a being that is sadistic and destructive and doesn't care who dies.
misplacedxsheath: (Now what?)

[personal profile] misplacedxsheath 2017-02-24 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, that problem. Yes, that sort of possibility complicates matters even without adding in innate elemental abilities.
almightyconflagration: (005)

[personal profile] almightyconflagration 2017-02-24 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
Innate elemental abilities that get even stronger when I change. It's something I rarely do because few can handle it. Still, I'd like to know at least one person would stop me from doing something I'll regret if I lose control of myself. I'd prefer it not to come to that, but it seems someone has an interest in seeing it happen.
misplacedxsheath: (Who thought that was a good idea?)

[personal profile] misplacedxsheath 2017-02-24 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
You needn't be concerned, I'm not afraid to go toe to toe with an out of control warrior, even one with superhuman capabilities. I'm well trained in subdual techniques as well...including ones that work on the masochistic sort.

[personal profile] almightyconflagration 2017-02-24 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
If it happens, don't worry too much about hurting me. On top of enjoying pain, I also heal quickly.
misplacedxsheath: (Hmmm...I'll consider it.)

[personal profile] misplacedxsheath 2017-02-24 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
No wonder you and he share so many traits. I'll keep that in mind the next time I need to keep you from falling asleep out of boredom.
almightyconflagration: (009)

[personal profile] almightyconflagration 2017-02-24 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Just don't get yourself punished again.
misplacedxsheath: (I can afford to be smug.)

[personal profile] misplacedxsheath 2017-02-24 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I barely even felt their last attempt, but if they're getting more creative...well, I suppose I'll just have to be preemptive in my attempts to keep you awake, so they can't claim I'm doing their job in waking you up.
almightyconflagration: (009)

[personal profile] almightyconflagration 2017-02-25 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
I'm just not fond of lengthy conversations that seem to go nowhere. I'm sure you'd also understand that being too knowledgeable on the subject of murder could quickly turn me into a suspect.
misplacedxsheath: (Hmmm...I'll consider it.)

[personal profile] misplacedxsheath 2017-02-25 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
That's the exact reason I didn't bring up my own knife throwing expertise. Not that I'd ever attempt to use something as poorly weighted as those kitchen knives as a projectile, you'd be more likely to hit someone with the handle than stab them by throwing something like that.
almightyconflagration: (008)

[personal profile] almightyconflagration 2017-02-25 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
That's also why few here have seen how much fire I can will into existence. They all get scared over a tiny ball of fire.
misplacedxsheath: (What a waste.)

[personal profile] misplacedxsheath 2017-02-25 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
I know, it's pathetic. Not to mention insulting, to act as if they think I'd hit anything but my intended target.

[A ball of fire appears above his hand, perfectly spherical, as if contained in a bubble. The motion of the flames, however, suggests it's more because they're focused entirely toward the center]

They don't call me an Ether master because of sloppy control.
almightyconflagration: (015)

[personal profile] almightyconflagration 2017-02-25 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. Something like that is child's play for me. If we lacked the skill to control our abilities, everyone except for us would be dead by now.
misplacedxsheath: (I can afford to be smug.)

[personal profile] misplacedxsheath 2017-02-25 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
Heh, Xander most particularly. He is fortunate I can control the intensity of my flames.

[The orb of fire fades to a cooler orange before flickering out entirely.]
almightyconflagration: (015)

[personal profile] almightyconflagration 2017-02-25 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
He's fortunate I can as well.

[Why yes, McBurn offered to help Xander burn off some of his frustrations as well. That might seem surprising enough.]
misplacedxsheath: (Hmmm...I'll consider it.)

[personal profile] misplacedxsheath 2017-02-25 07:06 am (UTC)(link)
Considered him worth your time, did you? He's durable, I'll give him that much...even if his lack of experience with powerful opponents does show.
almightyconflagration: (008)

[personal profile] almightyconflagration 2017-02-25 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
There's plenty of reasons why he's worth it. The largest one being that he's one of very few that nearly the whole group, if not all, actually respects.

[And considering the sort of group McBurn belongs to, he gets how important that trait can be in a leader.]
misplacedxsheath: (Who thought that was a good idea?)

[personal profile] misplacedxsheath 2017-02-26 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
It's a rare talent, to draw respect so readily. I find myself hoping it doesn't burden him too heavily.
almightyconflagration: (012)

[personal profile] almightyconflagration 2017-02-26 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
I agree. You also seem like you need the break from leadership and would prefer to assist him.
misplacedxsheath: (Hmmm...I'll consider it.)

[personal profile] misplacedxsheath 2017-02-26 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
You're observant. Fourteen years...it's been far too long since I didn't have matters of the Fleet dominating my life and a position of authority separating me from others.

...At any rate, if that's all you're concerned about speaking in private about, we'd best leave. The longer we're in here, the greater the chance of someone else entering the library.
almightyconflagration: (012)

[personal profile] almightyconflagration 2017-02-26 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the coast was clear when I entered, but who knows about now.
misplacedxsheath: (Who thought that was a good idea?)

[personal profile] misplacedxsheath 2017-02-26 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
You're the one who locked the door, so I believe you need to be the one to open it, as well.
almightyconflagration: (005)

[personal profile] almightyconflagration 2017-02-26 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
[He totally forgot, but then this isn't exactly the sort of tech they have his in world. The best is vocal recognition.]

Yeah, nearly forgot.

[He'll go ahead and get the door open and then take a quick look to see if anyone is nearby.]

No one in the immediate vicinity.
