Week 2

[The second week in the Champion Excellence Program kicks off on a somber note. Chitanda, Toby, the Griffin- all three of them gone, two of them in one fell swoop. If anyone thinks to check the profiles on their P.I.P.s they will find that the dearly departed Champions' profile photos have been greyed out.

Right on the dot at 7 am the mechanical woman's voice chimes to awaken the remaining champions on Sunday morning, as she has for the past week. After the initial wake-up call though there's a new message tacked on:]

Congratulations, Champions! By surviving your first trial, you have unlocked the second floor of the ship. A new mini map has been added to your P.I.P.! To access the second floor please stand on the teleporter and select the floor you wish to be teleported to.

[The new floor isn't the only thing floating around the ship though, at least metaphorically. When the Champions are awakened they have regained one new memory from the ones they've lost. Starting again on Sunday, as well, Jamie and Bolton will be back to their usual office hours in their usual locations.]

That's all right with me! You start out with stretching like you're going to the gym, right?

[Which is why Yurika should join Light over on the mat.]

[Time to start stretching, then.] I haven't done this kind of thing since school! I mean, I suppose that wasn't all that long ago.

Then go with the basic stretched first.

[One day you'll be as flexible as a gymnast if you keep it up.]

[Yurika starts out trying to stretch out her legs.]

I wonder if they have a meditation room here too, like we have on the Nadesico?

A meditation room?

[You need a room for that?]

Yes! It's got a big tree and even some little robot monks on wheels that remind you to focus!

That sounds too distracting...

I'm not sure why. It seems to work pretty well.

[bylight]

Little robots telling you to focus? That's annoying.

[ratherdoweddings]

Well, they only really bother you if your mind starts wandering! [Getting up to work on her arms now.] We've also got a ping-pong table in the cafeteria. That's popular, too, if people want to work themselves.

So you're trying to meditate by ignoring them. [That sounds stupid.] I don't think we're getting one of those here. Not unless you ask Jamie and Bolton nicely.

I don't really want to, anyway. I'm just thinking about it. Hey, Lightning-san, what do you miss the most?

[bylight]

Right. [Hmm...] Something I don't think I'll ever get back unless I go home as soon as possible.

[ratherdoweddings]

You must have an important mission back home, in that case!

[bylight]

Doesn't everyone here?

Everyone's got something important to them, but a few of us have ordinary lives, I thought.

[bylight]

Had. I believe Thomasin is the closest we have to someone having an ordinary life left.

[ratherdoweddings]

That's true, Jane-chan's life turned out weirder than we thought, right... Well, Shadow-kun never talks about his life! Maybe it's normal for animal people!

He seems rather used to this kind of environment. That means he most likely grew up in space. That much is obvious.

[ratherdoweddings]

That doesn't mean it's not an average life! Not everywhere has a war driving people out of space like my world, after all.

[bylight]

[Or be cursed and forced to destroy your home, which she's refusing to do.]

If you're that curious, ask him about it.

That's a great idea! You're right, Lightning-san, we should all know more about each other as long as we're here!
