Week 2

[The second week in the Champion Excellence Program kicks off on a somber note. Chitanda, Toby, the Griffin- all three of them gone, two of them in one fell swoop. If anyone thinks to check the profiles on their P.I.P.s they will find that the dearly departed Champions' profile photos have been greyed out.

Right on the dot at 7 am the mechanical woman's voice chimes to awaken the remaining champions on Sunday morning, as she has for the past week. After the initial wake-up call though there's a new message tacked on:]

Congratulations, Champions! By surviving your first trial, you have unlocked the second floor of the ship. A new mini map has been added to your P.I.P.! To access the second floor please stand on the teleporter and select the floor you wish to be teleported to.

[The new floor isn't the only thing floating around the ship though, at least metaphorically. When the Champions are awakened they have regained one new memory from the ones they've lost. Starting again on Sunday, as well, Jamie and Bolton will be back to their usual office hours in their usual locations.]

...We won't be here long enough for them to get that bored. I'm sure of it - we'll figure out some way to get out, or someone will come get us out of here. I'm going to have faith in one or the other.

We've only been here a week. The police won't investigate a disappearance for around three days and there's other conditions... There could be people looking already. The best thing we can do for the time being is find a way to make it easier for them.

Not just the police - the police aren't on a big enough scale for something like this. I know my friends will be looking for me themselves, and they're all very clever and tenacious.

[Her friends...are on a higher rung of emergency contact than the police...]

[She has ...a husband and daughter. They'll have to contact the police.]

In any case, someone will be looking.

[Either way someone's going to find their way to this place for sure.]

And if they don't give up, we'll be found. It'll take some time, but I doubt it will take forever.

It's good to have friends like that. We'll get out of this. Everyone just needs to remember that.

Exactly. [A firm nod. She believes in her friends, even if things are shaky. If they were all going to play a dangerous game together, they've got to do it together, right?]

[The response gets a small smirk from Natsuhi.

...She wishes she had friends like that.]

Oh, um, only those things. If there anything else you feel that needs to be said, I'm all ears, but if you'd rather keep things to yourself I understand.

[She debates it for a good minute.]

My injuries... I have a good idea of where they came from, if I'm right then it wasn't our captors.

Oh...yes, I have a similar issue with that. I ended up, up, figuring out where one of my scars came from.

Mine might have been a family dispute... [There's a wry smile there. She's honestly not sure if she was happy about knowing.]

[Uuh...]

You must have a, erm...rambunctious family life, Miss Natsuhi...

Don't think to hard about it. She's probably been waiting to do something like this to me for a while. It seems like she got her chance.

[Er, well...maybe we should get onto a slightly different topic of discussion?]

...As an aside, do you mind if I ask...what is your family usually like?

I just told you didn't I? [You're going to have to be more specific than that.]

My husband's siblings are a flock of vultures. The moment they think there's money to be had they start circling. I wouldn't put anything passed them! [Not even hiding the vemon there.]

...I'm used to them by now. They've always been like it, even when I was married into the family. [For someone whose used to it, she's get rather worked up.] Except Rosa...

Still...it can't be easy to have to deal with such, um, ruthless in-laws. I suppose the one thing you can do is make sure your children don't grow up emulating such attitudes themselves.

They act nothing like people of their station should... My daughter- she doesn't either. But I worry, she never seems to hear their insults.

Isn't it better not to, though? If she's being herself, and her own self is a good person, then why let the negative opinions of other people get her down?

She doesn't even care enough to defend herself. She's the heiress and she just let them get away with it.
