Week 2

[The second week in the Champion Excellence Program kicks off on a somber note. Chitanda, Toby, the Griffin- all three of them gone, two of them in one fell swoop. If anyone thinks to check the profiles on their P.I.P.s they will find that the dearly departed Champions' profile photos have been greyed out.

Right on the dot at 7 am the mechanical woman's voice chimes to awaken the remaining champions on Sunday morning, as she has for the past week. After the initial wake-up call though there's a new message tacked on:]

Congratulations, Champions! By surviving your first trial, you have unlocked the second floor of the ship. A new mini map has been added to your P.I.P.! To access the second floor please stand on the teleporter and select the floor you wish to be teleported to.

[The new floor isn't the only thing floating around the ship though, at least metaphorically. When the Champions are awakened they have regained one new memory from the ones they've lost. Starting again on Sunday, as well, Jamie and Bolton will be back to their usual office hours in their usual locations.]

Aside from that, I do know a lot of different funeral rites... just please don't ask me to do all of them. We did have that tea meeting after the trial, maybe we could say a few words...

I don't mind helping you out. Just let me know. [ she'll be your co-priest

Rukia nods. ]

We seem to be lacking in basic tools like prayer beads, and familial donations are a bit moot, so that may be the best we can manage.

It's also customary to burn items that the deceased was fond of, like candy, so if we can find anything that's disposable, we could do that, too. [ She's not saying they should ignite Chitanda's book, she means. ]

We could check their dumbwaiters? I got a ton of things in mine!

I'll have a look, later.

If you see any candles around, those would be good, too.

It's not a candle, but I got one of those miniature sun lamps the other day!

A...sun lamp?

[ she's picturing a tiny lamp with a sticker of a sun on it ]

It's supposed to feel like real solar light.

[yukionna]

Oh. [ a pause ] Well, I guess that could suffice if we can't find anything better.

What else, what else...? [ tapping her chin in thought ]

Uh, sermons? I know some from a lot of different religions... I just really hope none of them wanted something weird. One time, a Nergal employee on a colony that was destroyed was a huge vampire fanboy and his last recorded wish was to be bitten by the world's most beautiful woman after he died. That would've been gross and hard to ensure even if the colony hadn't exploded.

[yukionna]

[ There wasn't one part of that sentence she understood. ]

You...sure have a lot of adventures at home, don't you?

If being here teaches me anything, it's that people are weird no matter where you go.

[yukionna]

I guess that's true. Besides the talking animals, I never thought I'd meet an actual alien.

[ is. is she talking about yurika, or the doctor, or...? ]

[ratherdoweddings]

Oh, I'm just a human like anyone else! There aren't any real aliens on Mars. [She hesitates.] I think I remembered that maybe there used to be? But I can't make any sense out of my dream.

[yukionna]

[ her expression flatlines ]

...oh. [ um ] M-My apologies, I assumed, since you said you were from space.

[ratherdoweddings]

I am from space, but just a colony. It was founded a little under a hundred years ago, I think? But I'm way ahead of most of you time-wise.
