Week 2

[The second week in the Champion Excellence Program kicks off on a somber note. Chitanda, Toby, the Griffin- all three of them gone, two of them in one fell swoop. If anyone thinks to check the profiles on their P.I.P.s they will find that the dearly departed Champions' profile photos have been greyed out.

Right on the dot at 7 am the mechanical woman's voice chimes to awaken the remaining champions on Sunday morning, as she has for the past week. After the initial wake-up call though there's a new message tacked on:]

Congratulations, Champions! By surviving your first trial, you have unlocked the second floor of the ship. A new mini map has been added to your P.I.P.! To access the second floor please stand on the teleporter and select the floor you wish to be teleported to.

[The new floor isn't the only thing floating around the ship though, at least metaphorically. When the Champions are awakened they have regained one new memory from the ones they've lost. Starting again on Sunday, as well, Jamie and Bolton will be back to their usual office hours in their usual locations.]

[How many more times will Lightning come in here today. This woman can eat like there's no tomorrow. And it seems she's not the only one who had that idea. This is a girl she hasn't spoken to yet.

Hope she doesn't mind company, though Light will be sitting at another table with the same order. This cherry pie thing was great.]

[Of course she doesn't mind company! PIE MUST BE SHARED. Which is why the first thing Ricky does is look over to see what Lightning is eating. GOOD. SHE APPROVES.]

This is so much better than that other stuff.

[It's both tart and sweet. Perfect.]

The MRE's and freeze dried foods? They're not bad, but they do get rather boring after a while.

They're pretty bad.

[She felt like she actually lost TP from eating them.]

The freeze-dried ice cream was sweet, but that's about all I can say for it.

Not if you don't have any other food source. Then you'll learn to appreciate it.

[Such picky children here.]

It's meant to be sweet, though I can't tell you what flavors they were supposed to be.

Well, it doesn't look like that'll happen now.

[Because this place is now her food source forever. There are so many kinds of pie left to try! Ooh, raspberry, that sounds interesting.]

[She shrugs, finishing her current slice of pie.]

Unless they decide to shut this down.

[Which pie next.... Chocolate silk sounds good.]

[Ricky freezes.]

Don't say that!

[Always be prepared for anything.]

I doubt they'll do it unless someone really pisses them off.

[watch it happen to just ricky in particular somehow]

Still, I don't think we should be giving them ideas for how to punish us.

I don't think we have to. Men like this always know how to plan for every contingency.

I guess so.

[SHE'S REALLY WORRIED ABOUT THE FOOD NOW]

[They won't starve them, okay? Okay?]

If they took this or the kitchen away, there will be a riot.

[IF FOOD DIES WE RIOT]

...yeah, you're probably right.

[BURN THIS PLACE TO THE.......... EMPTINESS OF SPACE?]

Even the military knows not to starve their people.

...then again, the military isn't trying to get its own soldiers to kill each other.

... that isn't always true.

[Which is sad.]

[is this another tragic backstory why does everyone have those]

Don't worry about it. It happens.

[No tragic backstory time for you. Get up a few more friend levels.]

It seems like everyone here has had something bad happen to them.

[Even if she's not getting it she knows it exists and that's enough for everything to be terrible.]

That seems to be the common theme here. And everyone wants to go home because of it.

[Her past at least doesn't include murder... well, manslaughter. It involves manslaughter.]

Well, or because we have something important to do.

[Ricky's doesn't... that she knows of... yet...]

[Trying to save the world means some people have gotta die. Oops.]

... that... what was Griffin trying to do?

[...yep. Maybe a bunch of them. Maybe a whole town. Maybe an entire species she just remembered existed and she hasn't made the connection yet.]

He must have wanted to save his friend.

He was willing to die for Toby.
