Turns out I like cinnamon. I suppose I learned something about myself today.

I didn't have a sense of taste back then. I remember-...trying not to let on to anyone else that I wasn't human, because I didn't know what I was. As far as I can recall, you might be the only one who knew.

Whatever's happened between then and now, this is the first I can remember having needed to eat anything.

I've not bothered with secrecy on the matter; I don't have it any longer, so there's little reason to hide it. Back then I don't think I'd have come forward with 'incidentally, my blood is black and I might be that terrible daemon plague I told you I was supposed to fight.'

For the record, when you said you weren't sure why your face was doing that, sometimes you're a real shitty liar.

I really have lost my talent for lying, it seems.

I didn't know with any certainty, just...a suspicion that ended up being right.

...So that's a thing. That'll probably--that probably came out? At some point?

It must have. If I were to remember the person I became, then...the healer you thought I was would have disappeared entirely. I might even have killed someone, but I begin to suspect that's not the case. So far, those we remember losing aren't here--so it logically follows that there's a chance we're the ones who managed to survive somehow.

But there's supposed to be an Ultimate Champion. You can't have twenty ultimate champions.

You're exactly right. Which leads me to think something may have gone less than according to plan.

That's really...ominous. Really, really ominous. If we lived, and something went wrong, and now we're here again, that's...

Does this keep going? Over and over until there's only one?

...I want to presume that isn't the case, but I fear you may be on to something.

But if something went wrong--if some of us managed to stop a situation like this before it came down to an ending, for example--that means it can be done. Whoever Xander answers to, they must be fallible. Prone to mistakes, mistakes that can be taken advantage of.

Unless it wasn't because of us that something went wrong.

And we won't know until we remember.
