[Max's positioning seems unnatural - his remaining leg is straight out on the bed, and his remaining arm is straight at his side, palm facing downward.

Speaking of which, I have bad news about that hand too.]

[It's an obvious place to look - blood has clearly flowed out from between his slightly parted lips, leaving a stain down the side of his face and onto the bed beneath. If his head weren't turned to the side like that, he'd probably have choked on it.

Now, though, Max's mouth is empty. Empty of blood, empty of teeth, and empty of tongue.]
