Week 4

Week 4

[The Champions have had their first deliberate murders this week, and just like that, Prompto and Lunafreya are gone. Slaine followed them shortly after, however most people may feel about that.

This time, C.E.C.E.'s addition to the morning announcement probably doesn't come as much of a surprise:]

Congratulations, Champions! By surviving your second trial, you have unlocked the third floor of the ship. A new mini map has been added to your P.I.P.! To access the second floor please stand on the teleporter and select the floor you wish to be teleported to.

[In addition to the new floor, the Champions will find that they've gained another memory this week.]

Sunday | Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday

(( Welcome to Week 4! Don't forget to check in and submit your memory regains! Turn in your benefactor threads for sweet loot, too! ))

Did he have anyone with him? Or was he abandoned?

Eh, well... There had been others there, but they had all died from Assassin's poison by the time I found him. [Said like it's nothing.] I'm sure Rider's Master would have made arrangements for someone to collect the property, in case the worst happens, but I wonder if whoever it was left to will treat that boy any better.

I don't suppose you did anything to help him.

[No, she made his life actually worse, but Kaiba didn't ask that question so that's not what she says to him.]

Ah, if I had unhooked him from the machines, he would have died. If I had taken him out of that room, he would have died. Those machines should keep him alive long enough for him to be found, so it just made sense to leave him there.

...I see. That's one way of looking at it. He'll likely die there as it is if your description of the incident is accurate.

It depends on how much effort his new keepers expend to keep him alive.

[She looks up to Kaiba, and with her unfaltering smile, tilts her head.]

What would you have done in my situation, then, Kaiba-san?

It sounds like the kindest thing to do would have been a merciful death. He was barely alive as it was, and his prior keepers apparently didn't care about the moral or ethical implications, why should new ones?

Though I would have called the authorities and for a specialized medical team to deal with his delicate situation. [SURPRISINGLY LIKE A NORMAL PERSON WOULD]

[Manaka laughs at that, like he's said something genuinely funny.]

Kaiba-san, you don't think like a magus at all! I told you before, the Holy Grail War is supposed to be a secret, right? If I contacted anyone who would help him, what do you think they would find, crawling all over a magus's stronghold like ants?

[Aside from the obvious, there's another implication there. The Clocktower, the Church—anyone she would be allowed to call for would treat him no better.]

Corruption, travesty, horror, magic. It's not your stronghold; so long as you make sure they can't trace a call back to you, you might get away without anyone the wiser.

Maybe, or maybe not. If I was responsible for the destruction of that stronghold, what other suspect could there be?

Here's the real question: who would be in more trouble, you or the people who weren't supposed to know in the first place?

[He's imagining 'trouble' in this case as 'most likely to be murdered in a gruesome fashion for their trespasses. Easier to get rid of witnesses, isn't it?]

[personal profile] immaculacies 2017-11-13 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
The answer to that might be more complex than you think! If I compromise the secrecy of the Grail War, sanctions could be made against me — and I'm so close to winning, now. Besides, it's best not to draw the attention of the Clocktower in the first place. I don't want those stuffed shirts taking an interest in me... They'll just be a nuisance.
