[The Champions have had their first deliberate murders this week, and just like that, Prompto and Lunafreya are gone. Slaine followed them shortly after, however most people may feel about that.

This time, C.E.C.E.'s addition to the morning announcement probably doesn't come as much of a surprise:]

Congratulations, Champions! By surviving your second trial, you have unlocked the third floor of the ship. A new mini map has been added to your P.I.P.! To access the second floor please stand on the teleporter and select the floor you wish to be teleported to.

[In addition to the new floor, the Champions will find that they've gained another memory this week.]

[Early Thursday morning -maybe early enough that it's technically late Wednesday, she's not keeping track of the time- Penny is pacing anxiously in Room 9. Every so often she stops, like she's decided to do something, before changing her mind and resuming her pacing a second later. Eventually, she abruptly rounds on her heel and faces the camera in her room.]

CECE? I need help!

[Almost the entire rest of the day, Penny can be found in the library, pouring over a massive stack of nonfiction books, with a general medical theme, but a few about traveling into deep space at sublight speeds, or setting up colony ships. And one wilderness survival guide? Regardless, she's incredibly intent on all of them.]

[Later still, she's at the pool, staring at its frozen surface, Miki's shovel held tightly in her hands. After a moment, she seems to gather her courage for something and steps forward to the pool's edge, holding the shovel vertically and bringing the blade down sharply onto the ice. And then keeps going, repeatedly striking one spot.]

Good morning, Champion Dodecaswordsman. You seem to be in distress. How can I be of assistance?

I am! It's- Zombina, she's in trouble.

[It probably doesn't count as telling someone else if that someone already sees everything on the station.]

You've seen what's happening to her, right? She needs new preserving fluids, or she's going to- just rot away, and- ...is there anything onboard that could help her? There has to be something, on the parts of the station we haven't been allowed into yet!

Have you tried using the “ice rink” function in the pool room? Cold temperatures can delay the decomposition of organic matter.

I thought of that... She's afraid of getting waterlogged, though. Which- wouldn't be good, I agree. Do you know how deep the ice goes when it's frozen?

[Karamatsu had been attracted over by the sound of metal striking the ice, and what he finds is...well, about what that sound made it seem like was happening.]

Penny-chan? What are you doing?

Oh, hello Mister Karamatsu!

[She looks over briefly, before returning full attention to her efforts.]

I'm trying to find out how thick the ice on the pool is when it's frozen.

[There's a fairly sizeable, if shallow, hole developing already.]

[karappo]

[Karamatsu approaches as she hacks away, stuffing his hands into his pockets before they can become too chilled.]

I see...do you need any help with that?

[As opposed to the obvious question: why]

['Why' is a bottomless well of "do not want", Kara, ask carefully.]

Um- no, thank you. Unless you've got something else that can cut through ice, but the shovel is the only thing I've seen really suited for this kind of thing. I appreciate it, though.

[Unfortunately, he doesn't have anything like that...and at any rate, Penny is working like a girl on a mission, so it's probably best she do it herself.]

Would...you mind if I asked why you are cutting through the ice?

It's- for a friend. I promised I wouldn't say why.

But- not for anything bad, I promise!

[there's been a feeling radiating through the station today, a tension he's afraid to address. it's tomorrow's deadline, he's assumed, but there's an extra desperation coming from the normally sunny Penny and he has to say something when he catches her in the library.]

What are you looking for?

Oh- um. Salutations, Mister Thomas.

[She doesn't actually look like she's been missing sleep, but the general impression is nonetheless there.]

I was just. Looking for information. On, um. Preserving bodies. For a friend. It's not important. [hic]

[that's. worrisome. he can think of a few reasons to do that here on the station, none good, and while he isn't going to help her hide a corpse...]

...please, don't get angry with me if I ask you something.

Okay-? ...Oh- I'm not going to- it's not for. Murder. Or anything like that. I promise.

[andjerry]

I believe you. [he doesn't think she'd kill, really, but she's one of the strongest people he's ever seen. accidents can happen, and what happens to her if they do?]

What's going on?

Nothing. [hic] I promised not to say. Just- Z-zzzsssssomeone. Might. Be kind of in trouble. Maybe. If we can't find a way to stop a body from. Rotting. I wanted to help.

[andjerry]

[she's lying, and he knows it. he can put the pieces together by her sounds, by what he's remembered from talking to her friends.]

How much time do you think you have?

..I'm not sure. Maybe a week? But not long.
