[The Champions have now been here for one week, and while the dud of a first incentive didn't tempt anybody, the fact remains obvious: a lack of murder isn't going to be the thing that gets you out of here.

Blaze Dudely and Rox have not made a reappearance since Tuesday, leaving you to your own devices for the moment. That door they entered and exited through remains locked, and there is no new area to access this week. Are you sure they're even still back there? Despite their absence, you all wake up on Sunday morning from strange dreams. What to make of it?

[Zombina raises an eyebrow.]

That's quite the name they've got.

Mm. It's...something like a title. [Her cheeks flush again, even as she smiles. Quietly, nearly whispering to herself, she speaks just to feel the words on her tongue.] Saber. My Servant. My sword.

Well, they're an impressive lookin' servant, that's for sure! So ya said it's a title? That mean there's others with the title of Saber out there?

[She giggles, apparently pleased with Zombina's estimation of Saber.]

He's the strongest Servant there is! [She announces this proudly, in the same way a girl her age might declare a boyfriend or family member to be the best.] There are others that could hold the title of Saber, but there can only be one Saber at a time. The other Servants have different names, like "Archer" or "Assassin."

So is this some kinda hierarchy system then? Sorta like how there can only one king at a time or something?

[Wow, serventing must be really damn competitive your world.]

Ooooor is this the kinda thing I'm gonna need ta sit down and hear an explanation for?

Mm. [She shakes her head.] If the current Saber perishes, there won't be another one until the next time one is chosen.

[So... Like... Probably the latter.]

Yeaaah. I'm startin' ta get the feelin' that I'm gonna need an in-depth explanation of this system If ya are willin' ta provide it.

[Manaka laughs lightly at that.]

Well, think about it. If his title is "Saber," what do you think that means? What kind of role would a "servant" like that hold?

Uhhhhhh.... A dude who uses one of those saber swords? A soldier of some sort then?

Mm-hm! [Close enough!] I already said, right? He's my sword. So, he's meant to fight for me. It's just that the conditions of that fight are temporary, and specific, so there's only need to have one at a time.

Fight for ya? Like in a tournament or something?

[That sounds like a tournament to her.]

It's closer to this "game" than it is a tournament, but close! The goal is to be the last pair still standing by the end.

[WHY DOES EVERYONE REACT THIS WAY, FOURTEEN IS OLD ENOUGH TO TAKE PART IN HORRIBLE MAGIC DEATH RITUALS???]

That's right. I was chosen for it. Don't worry, though—Saber is the strongest Servant there is, so nothing bad will happen.

[Putting aside the fact that, if she had her way, Saber wouldn't fight at all.]

I'm- I'm still all kinds 'a concerned! Like, who the fuck lets their kid be chosen for that kinda shit!? Are all the other participants as young as ya?

[Putting kids in blatant danger is a big no-no.]

I mean, the thing 'bout Saber is comfortin' yeah, but like, ya never know! What happens if ya get ganged up on? Or some other unexpected shit! If that's some kinda death game, all sortsa foul play and blatant cheatin' is gonna be happening!

Zombina-san, please calm down. It'll be hard to answer all your questions if you ask so many of them at once.

I already told you, you don't need to be worried. I understand the stakes. It goes without saying that the others won't be playing fair, since there's no such thing as "fairness" in that competition to begin with. That's why I don't intend to, either.

Of course it isn't pleasant. But... I don't hate it, either. It's just a reality that I've been prepared for, for a long time.
