Week 3

[Four people dead now - six, if you include the crew. Things have been a little rough on the Starfield Penitentiary this week. Blaze Dudely doesn't make a public reappearance during the weekend, so you've got a few days to yourselves to recover, though he's probably still sticking to his office hours if you really feel like going to see him. On Sunday morning, you may find that you're recovering a a few other things as well - both strange dreams and some new items.

In addition, there's a new set of doors at the end of the corridor, by that empty space where you'd been having your fight club. Looks like you've got a new wing to explore.]

...I'm sorry? [Varric no, that's a crossbow, not...

But then it hits her, the way Varric looks over the toy like it's something he's known for so long that it should make sense. But it's just a toy, and that's why it was so distressing.]

Varric, do you happen to know what this is?

I don't know.

[It was Bianca's shape, but it lacked her heart, lacked the passion that had put her together and the weight that made her strong.]

She used to be my weapon. But this... this is just wrong.

Used to be? You mean...

[It's just a copy. Like Apollo's armor, something that could work as an imitation from a distance, but was little more then a glorified toy.]

It's not. It can't be your weapon.

Whether it is or isn't doesn't really matter. They're playing games with us here. Taunting us with what should be ours.

[He'd been hoping for some sort of miracle, a way of finding his weapon and fighting his way out. That was the sort of heroic shit he was supposed to be known for.]

It seems that way, doesn't it? [She's known about this sort of thing for some time now.

She kneels down to pick up the other things she had been given. It's nothing special.]

I got some of my clothes back, and the armor is completely fake. The same happened to Apollo.

So the question is -- did they bewitch what's ours, or are they hiding the real deal and cursing us with replicas?

[If the latter was true, there might be some hope of finding their armor and weapons and fighting their way out.]

I'm not sure. But, I think it might be the latter. Why would they just want to destroy our things instead of bringing us cheap copies to taunt with?

[If they really wanted people to die, they would return their weapons outright. But that would risk things, wouldn't it?]

I want to believe that our things are still out there somewhere.

To send a message? That we can't hope for the things that once made us strong to make us strong once more.

If I were writing a story, it'd be a great way to induce despair in both the characters and the readers.

That might very well be the case here.

I don't like the sound of it either. But if we recognize the problem, maybe we'll have a better chance of combating it? Easier to stay strong against an attack you recognize, right?

[tokencanadian]

That's true. But the hardest part will be trying to avert an attack and retaliating, considering how we all seem to be having difficulty with our abilities, and our weapons are...

[Literal toys]

All it takes is one blow. Figure those bots have weapons, right? If we can incapacitate one and take it off of them, we already have a leg up against the next one.

Just repeat the process until we're all armed and out-number Blaze.

I think one of us tried that before. [It went pretty well until they got shoved in the kitchen.]

Unfortunately... I'm worried that if we did try that, he would catch on to us too quickly. It's not great not having my normal abilities.

That's why you need a charming dwarf with natural talent on your side. [He offered the young woman an exaggerated half-bow.]

We'll get out. I promise you that.

[Despite the ridiculousness - no, it's because of it, he gets to see Pyrrha crack a grin. Haaa, good for him.]

I'm sure we will. There's definitely some way out, we just have to find out what it is. It's not like he can keep us down forever.

[Her smile is enough to rouse one from Varric in kind. He wasn't so naive as to think he had magically solved all of her problems. He was just happy to have eased the weight on her shoulders for the time being.]

Exactly. Besides, there are a lot of brains hard at work here. Between all of us, a solution is bound to shake itself out.

[A bit of reassurance can go a good distance. Even the mightiest heroes need it from time to time.]

A solution we're all in need of. Perhaps another meeting could be held and we can try and piece things together.
