Week 3

[Four people dead now - six, if you include the crew. Things have been a little rough on the Starfield Penitentiary this week. Blaze Dudely doesn't make a public reappearance during the weekend, so you've got a few days to yourselves to recover, though he's probably still sticking to his office hours if you really feel like going to see him. On Sunday morning, you may find that you're recovering a a few other things as well - both strange dreams and some new items.

In addition, there's a new set of doors at the end of the corridor, by that empty space where you'd been having your fight club. Looks like you've got a new wing to explore.]

It's a better view than anywhere else in the ship. I could stay here for a while, as long as I'm careful not to fall asleep.

It's better that we don't have to worry about accidentally falling asleep, anyway.

[Guess who just noticed the confetti scattered about under the basketball hoop.]

What the hell?

[Oda follows his gaze.]

Oh, that?

[He returns to where he'd left his basketball on the floor, and throws it. He gets it in the basket on the first try, and it gives a victory toot and makes more confetti.]

It does this every time.

... What.

[Baketballs aren't supposed to do that.]

Lemme see that!

[Must investigate the basketball!]

[Oda hands it over. Here you are, Leon, one seemingly ordinary basketball.]

[Ooookay? Looking it over.]

[Bouncing it a bit, then trying to score a hoop... Which fails because this is larger than a baseball and Leon didn't toss it far enough to get it in the basket. It bounced off the basket, though.]

That was pretty close. Try again?

[Oda is encouraging!]

Uh... Sure?

[Very good dad friend who won't annoy you or make stupid dad jokes.]

[Leon walks over to retrieve the ball, goes back to where he was standing... Okay, maybe a foot closer to the hoop... And tries again.]

[The ball spins around the hoop a few times before going through! Confetti and horns included. This is just... Weird.]

Okay, I get the feeling it might be the hoop.

It doesn't do that with any other basketballs, though. Just this one.

[Oda doesn't know what to make of it.]

[Leon gives Oda a look of pure disbelief.]

[Oda picks another basketball off the rack and throws it into the hoop.

No confetti, no victory horn.]

See?

[He looks back at the confetti ball.]

...That is freaking weird.

I agree. Right now I can't explain it.

[Maybe if he pops the basketball it would reveal its methods... but then it wouldn't be fun anymore.]
