[With the sudden pirate takeover and the sudden, tragic deaths of the crew, the second week of the Starfield Penitentiary rehabilitation project is off to a rough start. After Price's call for parlay with the pirate captain, he was not seen for the remainder of Saturday but around 10 pm it is his calm but tense voice that makes the time announcement.

Buckle in, Champions, things are about to get bumpy.]

It's... they're both figures of speech, Kiss-Shot. Well, the first one is, the second is just something people say before taking pictures, since when you say cheese you kinda smile. You can... say "blood," I guess, if that works better.

[ But she does indeed appear in the photograph! Her arms are crossed, like she's trying hard not to grin, but her smile absolutely reveals her prominent fangs. ]

Yep, you do show up. Want to see?

Ah? You managed to take it?!

[ Her stance shifts immediately; she seems enthralled, now, bounding over to the camera. All sense of dignified manner drops, and she's on her tiptoes... ]

Show me, show me! I...I would like to see!

[ Max smiles and lowers it so she can see. ]

Not too bad for the first picture you've ever posed for, huh?

Ah...I look so...

[ She takes it in for a moment, but she grumbles... ]

Unassuming! Why, I don't appear threatening in the slightest! Hardly befitting of someone of my title!

Isn't that better, though? No one would suspect anything. Kind of a... Let the Right One In kind of thing. You ever see that movie?

[ It's a good thing Max doesn't really believe her or encouraging this would be awk. ]

I haven't seen many films, actually. I'm familiar with the concept of them, of course. But to actually sit down in the theatre...that's something I've never done before.

Explain this...Let the Right One In, then. It sounds like a riveting tale of deception.

It's about this little girl who's a vampire, but no one guesses because she's... well, she looks like a little girl. And she moves to Sweden because it's dark all the time, and she befriends this boy - Oscar, I think?

And the rest, as they say, is spoilers, but that's the general idea.

Ah, I understand now! Sweden and Iceland are indeed ideal places for a vampire, considering the lack of daylight. Not to try and guess at the "spoilers," as you put them, but I imagine the premise would be that the girl tries to lull him into a false sense of security so she can drain him of his life energy.

Something like that? It's actually been a while since I've seen it, but it's a good movie. Very spooky for us humans.

You really don't watch movies, with all that time you have on your hands?

[acerolaorion]

Unfortunately, no. To my understanding, a movie is simply a recorded version of a drama, correct? I am familiar with more than my fair share of those. But I've never stepped foot in a theatre that shows movies, though I have seen them in passing, on giant screens in the midst of lots full of automobiles.

[ Drive-ins. ]

Is it truly that worthwhile a form of entertainment?

[helladoptera]

Yeah! Film is... it's not just a recording of a stage, it's a recording of life. Preserved pieces of time, arranged in ways you can't really do on a stage. Like the difference between a painting and a photograph - there aren't brushstrokes to admire, but the way everything was posed and framed, it's real. Well, more real-ish, anyway.

Even if some of them are all CG and explosions, these days. [ You couldn't fucking go one talk about film without being a hipster goddammit max ]

Explosions, you say...

[ She supposes she can understand why an audience would be drawn to a chaotic spectacle like that. It's the same reason why so many of her kind enjoy the violence and bloodshed that only a fight between vampires can bring about. ]

You speak about them rather passionately, human. Are you an aspiring filmmaker? Or are they simply a special interest of yours?

Well, I'm studying to be a photographer, so film's kind of like... a cool cousin to what I want to do, I guess.

[ She shrugs a little, and smiles. ]

I also just really like movies.

[acerolaorion]

And this Let the Right One In, is that among your favorites?

[ She seems...fascinated, honestly. Listening to people talk about their passions is amusing enough, on some level. ]

Definitely when it comes to vampire movies. The cinematography is really good - that's uh. How the shots are put together. What's on screen, how things are edited together, stuff like that.

[acerolaorion]

Like the stage direction, then.

[ She can get that, at least! ]

I'm always curious to see how your kind thinks of us, actually, in stories and, I suppose, film as well. There are so many different interpretations of our abilities and weaknesses that it becomes difficult to keep track of them all...
