week 2

[With the sudden pirate takeover and the sudden, tragic deaths of the crew, the second week of the Starfield Penitentiary rehabilitation project is off to a rough start. After Price's call for parlay with the pirate captain, he was not seen for the remainder of Saturday but around 10 pm it is his calm but tense voice that makes the time announcement.

Buckle in, Champions, things are about to get bumpy.]

Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday

[ooc: Don't forget to to turn in your AC for week 1 and submit your threads for the Benefactors!]
tenimuho: (1 2 3 go)

I haven't either, but it's keeping my mind off things.

[...If Akande saw his reaction the motive, he already knows what those things he's trying not to think too much about are.]

Please shuffle the deck.
goldrighthand: (as it shifts and cracks)

[personal profile] goldrighthand 2017-08-23 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[He did. Poor Oda with his attachments. Akande will go ahead and follow the instruction, neat and easy with his hands]

You know the meanings, though?
tenimuho: (I can't help but think true happiness)

[personal profile] tenimuho 2017-08-23 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been studying the books here.

[Oda deals three cards out.]

Your past: the King of Pentacles. A person who makes any venture successful, is steady and practical.

Your present: Justice. Preparing for a decision, being ready to accept the consequences of your actions.

Your future: the King of Cups. A calm person who understands people and gives good advice.

There's something about having two kings in a reading, but I don't remember it offhand... [Oda flips through the pages of the book he had next to him.] Having two kings doubles the influence of the king, which means you're concerned with results and external events. So, even when you're keeping calm and advising people, it's for the sake of getting the results that you desire. A lot of this is about getting results.
goldrighthand: (but hidden in his coat)

[personal profile] goldrighthand 2017-08-23 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[Huh. That's...

It's enough to get him to arch his brow, something clearly resonating with him. Hard to tell, though. He just chuckles, instead, drumming his fingers on the table.]

I cannot say I do not enjoy results. But these remind me of horoscopes - anything vague enough can apply to anyone.

Have you given one to yourself?
tenimuho: (two of us we sleep together)

[personal profile] tenimuho 2017-08-23 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't. I know myself too well and it's a little more engaging to try to apply them to people I don't know everything about.

...I don't think they work any better than horoscopes either, but anything that will distract me right now is fine.

[Tarot cards, or training, or anything.]
goldrighthand: (heal your shrinking soul)

[personal profile] goldrighthand 2017-08-23 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm. [And if Oda won't stop him, he'll take the cards, curious about he other designs] I've always preferred to make my own future, at any rate. As opposed to someone else deciding what I am and what I will be.
tenimuho: (1 2 3 go)

[personal profile] tenimuho 2017-08-23 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[Go for it, Akande.]

That's a better idea than just giving someone else control of your future. You can always change things.

[Not always for the better, but you can change it.]
goldrighthand: (he'll reach deep in to the hole)

[personal profile] goldrighthand 2017-09-05 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. [He sets down one, pulling out another] It's all about looking for an opportunity.
tenimuho: (and we savor it like rain)

[personal profile] tenimuho 2017-09-05 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I think primarily they're useful to keep in mind. It's rare that you won't benefit from thinking about the results of your actions.
goldrighthand: (it took you a lifetime to destroy)

[personal profile] goldrighthand 2017-09-05 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Then perhaps that's the real use of these. [THE FRIENDS YOU MAKE ALONG THE WAY] Giving you a line of thought to consider.

[And he hands them back]
tenimuho: (I can't help but think true happiness)

[personal profile] tenimuho 2017-09-05 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oda puts them back into a neat pile and sets them down.]

Maybe that's why people believe they work, because they get good results after getting a reading. When really it's just because they're putting more thought into what they do.
goldrighthand: (heal your shrinking soul)

[personal profile] goldrighthand 2017-09-05 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
As long as it gets results, I cannot insult the means.
tenimuho: (it's you I chose)

[personal profile] tenimuho 2017-09-05 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm. Tarot reading doesn't hurt anyone, so I think the only people who would insult it are the religious zealot type. And I've never been on good terms with them. They don't like being asked simple questions much.
goldrighthand: (you ain't got no self respect)

[personal profile] goldrighthand 2017-09-05 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
John's hardly unbearable. [More Entertaining than anything else. Though Akande'd still murder him in a heartbeat.]
tenimuho: (so it ends no clarity)

[personal profile] tenimuho 2017-09-05 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't mean John. Much worse than John.
goldrighthand: (he'll reach deep in to the hole)

[personal profile] goldrighthand 2017-09-05 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yeah, but John's the only one here that Akande can gossip about. But he nods]

You have experience with them, then?
tenimuho: (two of us we sleep together)

[personal profile] tenimuho 2017-09-05 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I live in a 'bad part' of town, so the only people who come by are the really dedicated Jehovah's Witnesses. They keep trying me - I guess because I'll talk to them instead of shutting the door? - but they haven't gotten very far.
goldrighthand: (well don't you worry buddy)

vague handwave

[personal profile] goldrighthand 2017-09-05 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[Pft. He chuckles a bit, leaning back]

I have had a priest visit me, before I came here. We were having a pleasant conversation until I called them out on the hypocrisy of their beliefs.
tenimuho: (it's you I chose)

[personal profile] tenimuho 2017-09-05 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Mine usually leave around the time I ask why an all-loving God would set up a system where good people can be denied a Heaven because they didn't believe in God on insufficient evidence, which He must have known would happen as an omniscient god.
