Some people, especially the press, are giving up and taking to their ships to flee.

Church. If he's an AI that's so close to being a perfect human, and the other Champions are comatose in some guys version of Florida in that off shoot show-[Yes, she watched some Deadland while you guys were gone and it's awful]-it could be possible that they could make AI copies off of us. Or at least the Champions who were actually locked in those simulations. AI's can be then further modified for specific needs. They could make one of you that would literally have no memories of what actually happened to you but be molded into an actor who can act like those things happened to them.

Though I don't see how they can copy someone like me into an AI without having a negative affects on my abilities.

No, they could do it. They could do it the same way they faked Ardyn's bullshit--hell, it'd make more sense. If what you can do is actually a copy they pulled together some other way than how your powers would've worked in your original body, it'd make more sense you wouldn't notice a difference if you're not your original mind.
