Week 2

[Other than the reappearance of the Overseer, there's no real change in the routine. PAL still makes the morning and night time announcements through the PIP on each Champion's arm, and still the Champion unitards are freshly laundered and re-hung each morning in their closets.

No other floors unlock, but Cece and Kip will still be appearing randomly to chit-chat.

All you know is... something has to change soon.]

Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday

[ooc: Don't forget to to turn in your AC for week 1 and submit your threads for the Benefactors!]

Uh... okay. I guess I'm not too buzzed to explain this. I'm gonna take it from the top.

Computers are highly advanced machines that, in my time, people rely on heavily for everyday things like work, communication, streamlining traffic, just about everything. It's not really important to understand how they work--like I don't need to understand magic to accept some people here have it. Fair?

Clear enough, yes.

[he still doesn't 100% get cameras yet, but he'll go along with it]

A hacker is someone who can, uh... I guess sort of "break into" computers and manipulate their inner workings to get information, or do something they weren't originally intended to do, so on. Like... if you changed the wording of a contract so that it did something else. The computer's bound by the contract, even though it's been tampered with.

...So theoretically he should be capable of altering our dear murderous disembodied voice. Is that the end of this particular line of thought?

If he could get at its code, yeah. If PAL were stupid enough to give him access, anyway.
scourgingstars: (then please believe a fact)

[personal profile] scourgingstars 2017-05-25 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
So all that we have to do is be fortunate enough that it would show a blatant and glaring weakness. Delightful.

[SIGH]

The only options I've heard presented are that or the idea that someone else is controlling it. Clearly, I lack the knowledge to determine which is more likely.

It's not a question you have to be a computer expert to answer.

[After all, Junpei sure isn't. He rubs the back of his head and crosses his arms.]

Who benefits most from this turn of events?
scourgingstars: (if i look hard enough)

[personal profile] scourgingstars 2017-05-26 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
That's obvious, is it not? The ones who benefit are either those watching or orchestrating this situation.

They're the ones who'd have written PAL's "contract," too. So in some ways, it doesn't even matter if it's acting on its own, or if it shows us a weakness. It's the ones behind it that we have to figure out.
scourgingstars: (i must have it painted black)

In other words, the puppet should be the least of our concerns next to the ones holding its strings.

At the very least, their motives make more sense than PAL's. And they'd be able to call off their robo-dog while it's sitting on our life support systems.
scourgingstars: (i'm scared; i doubt)

[personal profile] scourgingstars 2017-05-26 10:26 am (UTC)(link)
The only thing they or PAL have to gain from cutting that off is a very short production with a sudden finale. Unless the risk we present should outweigh any benefit they seek from this whole affair, I assume us to be safe on that front.

It'd make for a good incentive to drive an otherwise well-meaning person to kill. A single death, or every life here? I've seen people threatened with similar situations.
