Week 1

[With the introduction to the relationship experiment and their overseeing hosts done with, the Champions are left to their own devices to explore the first floor of the mansion as they please. Cece and Kip will pop-up every once in a while to chit-chat but for the most part they're somewhere inaccessible.

Each morning the Champions are awakened promptly at 7 am by PAL's even, almost laid back voice announcing the time and each evening at 10 pm to announce when the kitchen is closing for the night. Unlike the Overseers, he doesn't seem to be one much for conversation.

[Kip hums and turns back to the roses, looking them over for any other dead leaves that need to be pruned.]

How have you been settling in?

I don't really do settling in. In general. To be honest, all this place does is make me feel restless.

Not that it's not... nice... for what it is.

I can understand that. Before I ended up on Earth, I was the same way.

But you can at least enjoy the amenities for what they are.

[myocordial]

Hm, is that so? But Earth changed that, somehow?

[Psh, enjoy it, he says...]

Well, it's not as if I have much choice in the matter.

Well, I mean, I had a steady job. I didn't really make many friends - human touch was outlawed, it's kind of a long story.

[myocordial]

Hm. A very ridiculous story to lead to something like that, I imagine.

[He scoffs slightly, because that's dumb, so dumb.]

And from there you ended up here, then?

The network saw my coverage of the Boner Uprising [Yeah, the story does get stupider] and I guess they saw something they liked.

[myocordial]

[do you ever just really regret starting a conversation because oh boy]

[He's not even... gonna ask anything about that, he doesn't want to know.]

Tell me something, this network... Is this how they usually do things?

[theoverseen]

Depends on what you mean by "this." The whole reality TV thing has been going on at least two years.I don't really have the attention span to watch EVERYTHING the network's ever done, but I would bet it's pretty popular. You should see the special effects budget on the earlier seasons, man, it's bananaramas.

Reality TV seems to be such a constant. Not that I've ever watched any, but one of my friends is rather... taken with the concept...

[Yeah, it's a different time, place, everything, but whatever.]

But when I say "this", I specifically mean the part where they're using unwilling participants.

You know, actually, this is the first I've heard of it. I mean, it's hard to find actors that good anywhere, and they couldn't just keep reusing the same actors.

I mean, they did for season one and two - but those two got their own spinoff series in between.

[...yes he is that dumb.]

And you don't have any problem with this method, then?

[theoverseen]

...I mean, like I said, those were all just actors. Those two probably got a super sweet paycheck. Honestly, I thought all you guys were actors too at first, I'm not really sure what they're doing.

[myocordial]

[He's starting to get the sense that questioning this guy was both a good idea and Absolutely Pointless.]

Nothing that can be legal, I'm sure.

[There's a beat as the irony of what he just said hits him.]

...Well, not that I am usually the type to concern myself with laws, but I'm sure others care about that.

Hahaha, I'm sure there's some kind of reasonable explanation! The network's got a whole legal team and stuff, they know what they're doing.

[myocordial]

Hm, yes. Yes, I'm sure kidnapping twenty people and holding them here will work out just fine for them and there won't be any consequences whatsoever.

And I'm sure, of course, that no one here will have any hard feelings they may want to take out on whoever was in charge of these decisions.

[He's sure. So. Sure.]

See, that's the kind of positive thinking you need!

I believe I'm starting to understand why they chose you for this.

[theoverseen]

Because of my charming good looks and go-getter attitude, right?

Well, something about your attitude, sure. Oh, but I can assure you that it's definitely not a compliment. [So don't go taking it as one buddy.] But this has certainly been an... enlightening conversation, Kip Larimer.
