Week 1

[With the introduction to the relationship experiment and their overseeing hosts done with, the Champions are left to their own devices to explore the first floor of the mansion as they please. Cece and Kip will pop-up every once in a while to chit-chat but for the most part they're somewhere inaccessible.

Each morning the Champions are awakened promptly at 7 am by PAL's even, almost laid back voice announcing the time and each evening at 10 pm to announce when the kitchen is closing for the night. Unlike the Overseers, he doesn't seem to be one much for conversation.

Enjoy your week, Champions.]

Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday

[ooc: welcome to week 1, everyone! This first week is a peace week which means there will be no murder this weekend! Feel free to start submitting threads for the benefactors]

That's a pretty limited line, yeah.

You don't really talk like one, either. I mean, the droids I've met sound more like PAL.

...And less of us now.

[Much, much less. But let's not dwell on that.]

Well, we're no mere machines. We're very close to humanity. On the road to surpassing it, even. [Ha ha but don't worry about that.]

Oh. I'm sorry.

[Cause that sure sounds like a sad story. And just. Ignoring the slightly ominous capper on all that.]

You mean besides appearance, right? I mean, droids usually just serve one general purpose, but you-

[ha ha ominous what? nah it's fiiiiiiine]

Normal machines aren't capable of evolution, like my kind is. So we're always changing and becoming more than we were before.

So... you were sort of built to be alive. Kind of.

[personal profile] myocordial 2017-05-21 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
That was the idea, yes. As far as I understand it, at least.

And it's the reality, too. We may have been created artificially, but we are our own species.

Okay.

Droids aren't, really. They can develop quirks if they function long enough, but they don't really have- I don't know, free will or anything.

...What sort of quirks?
cameupshort: (uh)

[personal profile] cameupshort 2017-05-21 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Just- little habits of speech, specific ways of doing things. Maybe acting stubborn sometimes. I think it's usually just stuff they pick up from the people that own them.

[First Order droids get memory wiped pretty regularly, so he doesn't have a huge lot of experience here.]

It sounds to me like those behaviors fall outside their programming. That seems exactly like the start of free will to me.
cameupshort: (I'm listening)

[personal profile] cameupshort 2017-05-22 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe, their programming can be pretty broad in some areas. Depending on what their function is. But they're still limited by their core programming.

[personal profile] myocordial 2017-05-22 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Can you really be sure of that?

[Sorry buddy this is kind of A Thing for him.]
cameupshort: (uh)

[personal profile] cameupshort 2017-05-25 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
Uh- I guess not, sorry.

[Yeah, he can kind of understand why this might be A Thing for the living droid.]

I've lived around droids, but I don't program them or anything.
myocordial: (034)

[personal profile] myocordial 2017-05-25 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm. Even those who do program don't know as much as they might think.
