Week 1

[With the introduction to the relationship experiment and their overseeing hosts done with, the Champions are left to their own devices to explore the first floor of the mansion as they please. Cece and Kip will pop-up every once in a while to chit-chat but for the most part they're somewhere inaccessible.

Each morning the Champions are awakened promptly at 7 am by PAL's even, almost laid back voice announcing the time and each evening at 10 pm to announce when the kitchen is closing for the night. Unlike the Overseers, he doesn't seem to be one much for conversation.

[If Lee's stuck here, she's got to plan for the long term. Her "too hot for TV" jokes are only that, because what if this is for real and makes it onto cable or some streaming site? She'll be over before she starts. Continued legal threats aren't going to get her any points either: no one likes a litigious girl.

So she does her best to stand out in a good way without being a threat, like all the best reality TV winners. The Champion unitard goes on immediately, and she starts out lounging around, getting everyone else's measure, while finding an area the rest of the cast all come through. In the dining room, she spreads out a book of tattoo designs on the table and starts inviting people over to look, even if she doesn't know their names.

And if she's going to stay at the top of her game, she has to try and keep her health up. The training program put her on paleo, but she hasn't cooked much of anything in a while. The cookbook shelf looks like a massive disappointment as she huffs at it while munching on of a bag of baby carrots, and her walls are down for a moment or two.]

[Mai picks up a cookbook and leafs through it.]

No paleo, no vegetarian, not even "healthy". [She holds the bag out to Mai,
offering her a rainbow variety of carrots.] You gotta have a recipe.

[She carefully takes a purple carrot and looks at it for a moment before shrugging and starting to eat.]

Doesn't vegetarian food just not have meat?

Yeah, but if you just take the meat out, you get something that isn't balanced. [She makes a wobbly hand gesture, as if the meal's going to fall over.] You've got to put something else in. And someone else usually does that for me.

...You have a cook. [nods as if this makes perfect sense.]

[Nutritionist, but yeah.]

I don't have time to cook, do you?

I make breakfast. Sayuri brings us lunch. Supper is from 7/11.

[just. let the pity in her eyes wash over you, Mai]

...you know that 7/11 food's been sitting there for like twelve hours if you eat it for dinner.

...Probably.

[Said without much of a change in expression. Nom carrot.]

You get home too late? [That was... yeah, that was track and cross-country seasons for her.]

Ya thinkin' about getting some ink?

[ Hell yeah, girl. ]

[Like any basic white girl, she's thought about it, and now she's on a path where she can get whatever she wants... but she hadn't even gotten it out for herself. It's a way to start people talking, and even if this guy looks like trouble, she at least wants to know what kind.]

Not with the regrets, but I seen plenty of losers fuck up what they asked for and ended up screwed with some pansy-ass design for life.

...Like the guy in my kickboxing class who covered himself in energy drink logos.

Nah, it's about art and shit. The way we do it, the ink gets hand-pressed inta the skin by a master. Takes hours just to do a tiny portion, and that's not countin' lining or touch ups. A good tat'll take months or years to finish.

[She grimaces as he describes that process. Machines can go quick and almost painless from what she's heard, pricking ink into skin to make a tattoo almost easy... but maybe something's missing from that.]

So what meant that much to you? [A process that long needs some dedication, if not passion.]

I got a clan of my own, gotta show those punks what it means to be a real yakuza. My boys swear their while damn lives ta me, I gotta wear that proud.

[you know, she's going to have to learn how to deal with guys like this eventually. even if it's kind of intimidating.]

Like you can't take back that commitment, either. [She looks like she's getting a really bad idea.]

You guys all get the same thing? To show that?

Ain't a lot of guys that leave the family and live to tell it, girlie.

[ As if there was any doubt about what kind of family he meant. ]

Nah, not quite. We all get tats, but they're different. Some guys get dragons or kirin if they think they're hot shit. Ya can get sleeves or just do yer back or whatever the fuck ya want. Ya just gotta get it done—once yer inked up, that's it. Yer tattoo shows yer dedication to the life. Some guys're just more dedicated than others.

So you know by then that you're in it for life. Like your uniform except you can't take it off.
