Week 4

[Four weeks in and almost half the Champions' original numbers are gone. Eight people in the span of a month and, even with the Overseers seeming increase in empathy for the remaining Champions, there is no end in sight for the Champion Excellence Program.

And again at 7 am on Sunday the mechanical woman's voice chimes to awaken the remaining champions on Sunday morning. After the initial wake-up call the message tacked on:]

Congratulations, Champions! By surviving your third trial, you have unlocked the fourth floor of the ship. A new mini map has been added to your P.I.P.! To access the fourth floor please stand on the teleporter and select the floor you wish to be teleported to.

[And again the Champions are awakened they have regained one new memory from the ones they've lost. Starting again on Sunday, as well, Jamie and Bolton will be back to their usual office hours in their usual locations.]

I noticed. [And honestly we're better off without direct weapons, but...] Roxy had been helping me learn to better throw a punch, if that's what you mean.

You need a lot more than just a punch. I taught that to Xander. Kicks can be important as well, and throwing is something everyone could do.

[Relaxing enough into something approximating a proper stance - for an enemy that would be much larger than Lightning. Hoo boy, teach her right Soldier Mom]

She sighs and comes over, hooking a foot around Jane's ankle and doesn't even have to try to knock the girl down.]

Too wide. You're opponents are human here.

Ah-

[UNGRACEFUL FLOP ONTO FLOOR]

S-Shoot...right...okay...

[Scrambling to get up really quick, though - and scrambling backwards a few steps as her stance sort of narrows. Not letting you get the upper hand here!]

[A little better. Lightning decides to charge at Jane to see what she does.

Better react fast or you're getting tossed.]

Instinct drives her to duck to the side, fists up! As much as she asked for this, it's clear that she's still unsure if she should actually hit Lightning...

Might wanna change that.]

[Predictable.

Hope you know how to jump because she's gonna go for a leg sweep.]

[Shockingly enough, she does jump - her momentum's a bit much for a human opponent, causing her to roll to the side, but she doesn't act surprised or anything, so it was deliberate. Now, at least, she's at Lightning's side. Better get her in front of you-]

[Jane, you're dealing with someone flexible and used to close combat battle. She tucks her legs under her as she swivels her hips to swing a fist at Jane. Still testing the girl to see just what she ws capable of.]

[The fist connects, but not with a face - Jane brings her arms up in time to block it, pushing back immediately. Now she understands.

Jane takes a few steps back to get some space between them, to give her a second to think. How do we approach this...]

[And this is why Xander had a limp for a day or so. Imagine that fist connecting to the inside of your thigh.

Lightning stands and watches Jane with a very relaxed stance. Let's see if Jane is brave enough to strike first.]

[Yeah she's gonna have a nice bruise on her arms for a while, Jane can feel it already.

The relaxed stance is a bit off-putting, but seeing as how Jane's already seen Lightning be very quick, she waits a moment, bringing her guard up before darting forward. It's more a feint than anything - will Lightning strike, or no?]

[Would Jane be surprised that the relaxed stance is her default stance?

Lightning doesn't move until Jane gets close enough that she moves to guard herself. Let Jane get a hit in like she had done for Xander and gauge how much hit power is behind the strike.

How she wishes she could have fought McBurn and Margulis. She wouldn't feel the slight guilt of hitting them.]

[Yes.

Alright, she won't take the feint - let's try for a hit. Jane brings back her fist for a punch, not extravagantly or openly like someone trying too hard, but there's a surprising amount of strength behind it. Not as much as Lightning's, but still telling of some good potential. If someone wasn't expecting the punch, it'd knock the wind right out of them.]

[Lightning tenses and grabs Jane's wrist before the hit can connect. She uses the momentum to keep Jane going, and slams her knee into the younger girls stomach.

She did say she wasn't going easy on you.]

Ugh-

[OW FUCK there goes Jane's own wind. She staggers, gasping for breath, but she doesn't go down. She knows in a real fight there's no room for recovering from pain, which is why she stubbornly keeps on her feet and uses Lightning's grip on her to try and yank her close, only to shove her away with the full force of her body.]

[The shove is strong, but like Xander implied, Lightning has been trained to recover fast. She uses the momentum to roll and get right back into a standing position. Let's hope Jane isn't as stupid as a certain prince when Light charges and tries for a roundhouse kick. DON'T CATCH IT]

[WHY THE FUCK WOULD SHE CATCH A KICK

Nah son Jane's throwing herself right the fuck out the way and bracing herself to hit the ground and roll]

Not really she has more respect for Jane than that. Which includes chasing the younger girl and going for a direct hit.]

She's scrambling like mad so Lightning probably lands a glancing blow? Dang, for a little lady she scampers fast. Jane gets right to her feet, though, and her fist pulls back for an uppercut. Doesn't necessarily mean she'll make contact, but it's an attempt.]

[Jane is sprightly that's for sure. But that won't keep her from getting her fist caught. Light grabs the front of the younger girls shirt with her free hand, lifts, and then tosses.
