Week 3

[Come week 3 of the Champion Excellence Program the high-flying feelings that came with the dodgeball game last week has dissipated, especially after the...everything that was that trial. Satan Mask sure was a thing that happened.

Just like last week, right on the dot at 7 am, the mechanical woman's voice chimes to awaken the remaining champions on Sunday morning. After the initial wake-up call though there's a new message tacked on:]

Congratulations, Champions! By surviving your second trial, you have unlocked the third floor of the ship. A new mini map has been added to your P.I.P.! To access the second floor please stand on the teleporter and select the floor you wish to be teleported to.

[And again the Champions are awakened they have regained one new memory from the ones they've lost. Starting again on Sunday, as well, Jamie and Bolton will be back to their usual office hours in their usual locations.]

That doesn't really happen where I'm from.

Really? Is everybody truly that happy with their politicians?

No. They're sheep under the Fal'Cie. As long as the Fal'Cie keep everyone in line by treating them like pets, no one complains. And the ones who do are like my sisters fiancee, Snow. They aren't taken very seriously.

But people do try to rebel against them, like this Snow fellow?

Snow rebelled against the soldiers who weren't keeping monsters in check. We had a bit of a problem with those, and they cause quite a few deaths each year.

And there's soldiers who don't want to help with such things? Why bother becoming a soldier if you're not going to do something for the good of others?

[bylight]

We were assigned to protect people, not hunt monsters down.

[cyan_maid]

But wouldn't fighting monsters that attack people be part of protecting them?

[bylight]

You'd think so. [The soldiers are assholes and leave it to the Bodhum branch of the Guardian Corps.]

[cyan_maid]

...And yet it's not?

[Confuuuuused so confused.]

Not unless they have something to gain from it.

[cyan_maid]

...I can't imagine that you operate that way as a soldier. That's just a terrible way to conduct oneself.

[bylight]

No. I protect the people because that is my duty as a soldier. I don't care about the internal politics and the pathetic squabbling. Protecting the people of Bodhum meant my sister was safe as well.

[cyan_maid]

[A smile.] I like that way much better. If I lived in Bodhum, I'd feel much more secure with you around.

[bylight]

[You'd actually probably greatly dislike Light since she was all business all the time.]

There was an entire Guardian Corps to protect the people.

[Excuse you if we had hardworking officials doing their jobs right and taking them seriously all the time there's lots we could have avoided as a society
