Week 3

[Come week 3 of the Champion Excellence Program the high-flying feelings that came with the dodgeball game last week has dissipated, especially after the...everything that was that trial. Satan Mask sure was a thing that happened.

Just like last week, right on the dot at 7 am, the mechanical woman's voice chimes to awaken the remaining champions on Sunday morning. After the initial wake-up call though there's a new message tacked on:]

Congratulations, Champions! By surviving your second trial, you have unlocked the third floor of the ship. A new mini map has been added to your P.I.P.! To access the second floor please stand on the teleporter and select the floor you wish to be teleported to.

[And again the Champions are awakened they have regained one new memory from the ones they've lost. Starting again on Sunday, as well, Jamie and Bolton will be back to their usual office hours in their usual locations.]

[Lightning waits till Jane gets closer before flicking her in the forehead.]

Stop thinking so hard. No one's mad at you.

[She looks ahead as she starts casting a Blizzard spell, small flakes of ice and snow drifting off of her hand.]

It's not easy to react with a cool head in situations like that.

Uh-

[Boink, she has been flicked. Jane blinks owlishly.]

N...you're not mad?

Why would I be?

[Light kicks a ball, then blasts it with the Blizzard spell. Thunk goes the ice ball.]

You didn't know. She told me about Caleb when I met her. He's is... was her brother. The motive may have triggered that even more in her.

[Thunk indeed. Jane is quiet for a little while, looking at that almost instantaneous chunk of ice.]

...I still shouldn't have said anything. That was...out of line. E-Even if it's true - I really don't want to see anyone get hurt here, despite knowing each other for a couple of weeks. But...I definitely don't know much about anyone just to say it like that.

I doubt she's mad at you. Everyone, even McBurn, seemed rattled. You didn't do anything wrong.

[Human emotions are not something anyone should ever apologize for.]

This just means you should get to know people better.

[Yes they are, if you're Jane. How DARE a girl have emotions. Throngs of unseen people would sadly agree with that assertion.]

...Maybe in a little bit. When...things have started to calm down. I don't - I don't want to end up making anyone upset.

I don't think anyone would be mad... but taking a day or so might be good for everyone.

[Except her. She deals with things by being angry at everything.]

Yeah.

[She lets out a breath and seems to deflate a little. This...had really been bothering her, huh? It's not shaken off completely, but it's nice to know that Lightning isn't mad at her.]

...Your magic is...pretty cool. Strange to see in action, but cool.

[It takes a lot for someone like Jane to make Lightning mad.]

I have much more powerful spells that look more impressive. Just can't seem to use them.

[Good to know.]

There's probably something in the PIPs keeping anyone with powers from using them past a certain threshold. How else would they be able to control us?

[Jane you have no idea how much of a gamebreaker you'd be if they didn't completely block the Lifey Thing.]

[Hey, Lightning has the powers of a god. She'd break things too.]

I wouldn't be surprised. I want to know what.

That'd involve either dismantling one or getting a full list of specifications from the Overseers, wouldn't it?

[And you don't want to try dismantling this fucker when it's on your arm]

Yes. I don't think they'll hand it over.

No, it's highly unlikely.

[A sigh. That PIP just tends to feel heavier and heavier.]

...So...what sort of magic stuff can you normally do without stupid machines inhibiting you?
