Week 3

[Come week 3 of the Champion Excellence Program the high-flying feelings that came with the dodgeball game last week has dissipated, especially after the...everything that was that trial. Satan Mask sure was a thing that happened.

Just like last week, right on the dot at 7 am, the mechanical woman's voice chimes to awaken the remaining champions on Sunday morning. After the initial wake-up call though there's a new message tacked on:]

Congratulations, Champions! By surviving your second trial, you have unlocked the third floor of the ship. A new mini map has been added to your P.I.P.! To access the second floor please stand on the teleporter and select the floor you wish to be teleported to.

[And again the Champions are awakened they have regained one new memory from the ones they've lost. Starting again on Sunday, as well, Jamie and Bolton will be back to their usual office hours in their usual locations.]

Golly, and you're all alright out there? I can't imagine restocking the pantry to be very easy if the trip takes that long.

It's not that difficult. We make sure we have a good stock of the essentials, with extra. There's a few issues during the stormy season. My daughter's had to stay had friends a few times because the boat couldn't bring her back.

[What she's neglecting to tell you is that it isn't normally a few hours. Just going full speed on a boat with a migraine is the worst.]

I can imagine it could get pretty precarious during a storm. Besides being stocked, your house has a shelter, right? A basement at least?

Yes. We have our own incinerator too, for fuel.

But we've never had to use it for that. The mansion was built to withstand such things. The worst we get is a broken window.

Oh, that's good! It really is important to have a sturdy house when you live so far out, huh?

[Not to say Jane's might not be, but when someone throws a bathtub through the wall, you're kind of easily impressed.]

That's right. In all the time I've lived there we've only lost the shrine on the coast. And the garden...

[It's lovely, till it ends up over the house.]

Well, plants aren't always the best at weathering storms. Trees get uprooted all the time, after all. What sort of shrine did you all have?

Just tutelary shrine. I suppose it's a bad sigh when I shrine for a guardian disappears. But it's not much of a surprise, it was too close to the waves.

I'm not from anyplace that usually has, erm, shrines around, so it's definitely new to me. Was it for a guardian of the island?

That's right, I don't believe it had a name. Some of the servants even started a rumor that it got struck by lighting.

[Oh...that's...kind of sad.]

Why wouldn't it have a name, though? That's so strange...to have a shrine for something with no name...

It would have done. It's not uncommon for shrines to be forgotten.

[Why did you make her think about it? Now she's going to have to work it out.]

[Because now Jane's thinking about it.]

I see...that's a bit sad.

Don't you have anything like that where your from? It's no diffent to an old church or ruins.

I suppose it isn't, but we know what those old churches were for. To not know the name of the thing a structure is supposed to honor just seems...I don't know.

It could be multiple beings, there are too many stories and rumors to pick one out.

Do they have anything in common besides apparently being about the same thing?

It's just a bunch of old fisherman's tales.

Mm...then I guess it's not easy to pick up common threads to try and piece together something that might be close to true. Aw, shucks.

No, and all the stories of witches and demons don't help.

...Witches and demons? Really?

Yes. Supposedly the island used to be inhabited by demons, which is why a shrine was built there, to ward them away. The witches part was more Mother's doing. To keep the children from going into the forest.

Well, I suppose if the children believe that, then it'd work...

Well, we haven't lost any yet. Though we have come close a few times.

...One time Jessica decide she wanted to 'fight' the witch and dragged her cousin off into there.

Er...oh, dear. Yes, that's not exactly...the desired effect. I do hope they were alright?
