Week 3

[Come week 3 of the Champion Excellence Program the high-flying feelings that came with the dodgeball game last week has dissipated, especially after the...everything that was that trial. Satan Mask sure was a thing that happened.

Just like last week, right on the dot at 7 am, the mechanical woman's voice chimes to awaken the remaining champions on Sunday morning. After the initial wake-up call though there's a new message tacked on:]

Congratulations, Champions! By surviving your second trial, you have unlocked the third floor of the ship. A new mini map has been added to your P.I.P.! To access the second floor please stand on the teleporter and select the floor you wish to be teleported to.

[And again the Champions are awakened they have regained one new memory from the ones they've lost. Starting again on Sunday, as well, Jamie and Bolton will be back to their usual office hours in their usual locations.]

How...do you even manage? I don't know much about farming, but it doesn't sound like you'd even get much out of it with weather like that.

We always manage- the weather and soil weren't always this bad, from what I've been told, and we supplement with magic to a degree.

As well as annexing richer territory.

[AKA just taking shit from the neighboring principalities and Hoshido]

Can't you move your people? Or share resources with friendlier...territories. [Because 'annexing' sure does sound like 'take over bc we want ur shit' and that seems not right??]

Nohr has always had more enemies then friends.

[he sighs, pinching his nose]

There are ill feelings on all sides, from all the way back to the dragons that founded all the kingdoms. While with time I do think trade and peace could solve many things... how many people can you say are an acceptable sacrifice to hunger or desperation in the meantime? It's never so simple.

And this is the land you're to inherit, as prince. That...does not sound like an easy task, to put it mildly.

[As if that explained everything. He goes back to poking holes in his pumpkins]

What about you, Shadow? What is your realm like?

[He takes a seat, half watching and half considering how to describe it.]

Many people are from Earth, or a variation of the planet Earth. There is an Earth where I'm from, but it's a strange place I've only recently visited. I come from a station not entirely unlike this one, in fact, that orbited the planet. Not quite so new, but certainly state of the art at the time. Filled with scientists of all kinds, as well as maintenance and other workers for upkeep. There were certainly more windows, for one. But in a way, waking up here was almost like waking up at home.

Something like home, but also completely different. Almost seems worse then waking up someplace utterly unfamiliar.

[There's a furrow between his eyes at that, remembering his latest dream-memory, the waking up, being woken up. In the midst of chaos, and with no memory, which strangely clashes with having his memory now.

And you...you can't remember anything, can you?]

Almost. But I'd take the almost-familiar to the completely unknown any day. I can understand the basic workings of this place without being baffled by space, for instance.

Hm, true. People like myself and Thomasin are utterly helpless in that regard. It is honestly amazing no one has taken advantage of that fact.

It might amuse some people, but I don't see an ultimate point of doing so. Besides, you're trusted around here. Thomasin is liked. And we should ultimately see to getting out of here together in one piece, as much as we can.

Of course. But it's nature for one to think of themselves first when under duress. Especially for so long. If someone decided to attack me to escape I can't say I would blame them for it.

Of course I would still kill them if I had to. But that just comes back to the same point.

That people choose to participate in this game isn't the upsetting part, certainly not even surprising. It's human nature. [Does he include himself in that? Who knows.] We're all capable of doing something like this, even if we might not all be capable of defending ourselves. We're all strangers in the end. And what's a stranger compared to the rest of your own world or even your own life? That's the balance.
