Week 3

[Come week 3 of the Champion Excellence Program the high-flying feelings that came with the dodgeball game last week has dissipated, especially after the...everything that was that trial. Satan Mask sure was a thing that happened.

Just like last week, right on the dot at 7 am, the mechanical woman's voice chimes to awaken the remaining champions on Sunday morning. After the initial wake-up call though there's a new message tacked on:]

Congratulations, Champions! By surviving your second trial, you have unlocked the third floor of the ship. A new mini map has been added to your P.I.P.! To access the second floor please stand on the teleporter and select the floor you wish to be teleported to.

[And again the Champions are awakened they have regained one new memory from the ones they've lost. Starting again on Sunday, as well, Jamie and Bolton will be back to their usual office hours in their usual locations.]

Motive: Ouija Board Not Included

[Tuesday comes, and it's once again Bolton's turn for a motive. He doesn't hold his office hours on Tuesday, but the announcement comes once again for everyone to come to the cafeteria. Bolton enters with a flourish, wearing a dark blue pinstripe suit with a pink tie. Jamie, in a blazer over a t-shirt and jeans, looks not enthused.]

Welcome back, Champions, it's time for another motive. I don't have a handout this time, so I'll make it quick.

What would you do, if you had the chance to send a message to one person. Any. Person. Living or dead. Would you take the chance to tell someone you loved them? Or to tell someone goodbye?

[He steeples his fingers. Jamie, behind him, levels a flat, unimpressed glare at the back of his head.]

As usual, this week only you can find out for the low, low price of... Drumroll, please! [Bolton turns to look at Jamie, who crosses his arms and looks away.] Really, J? No? Fine.

If you want the chance to send a message to one person, all you have to do is kill someone and get away with it! Simple, right?

[The door to their side whooshes open behind him, and Bolton turns to see that Jamie is leaving. Immediately distracted, he turns to follow.]

Hey, wait, Jamie, where are you going?

[Living or dead, living or...]

No...

[curdle]

[ it is now time for someone to slow Thomasin's roll, because before Bolton can turn to leave, she is rushing, with rage in her eyes and a vengeful death wish,




at the espresso machine. ]

[Distracthog is considering the words, but Thomasin is sure rage rage against the dying of the espresso machine and hey wait--]

Thomasin, what are you doing? [Do not test his speed he can and will catch her if she's about to do something...unfortunate.]

[Bolton was turned toward the door to follow Jamie when he hears rushing, angry footsteps and he turns expecting to be attacked-

and finds worse.]

Thomasin-

[curdle]

[ please god stop her she is not going to stop herself ]

Get thee back! [ Now that she's actually getting close to the machine, she realizes she doesn't have any actual tool of destruction, but her hands should be good enough. ] I will have this damned thing in pieces!

[...Oh if all she's gonna do is beat up the machine and not, say, throw boiling espresso or glass or something at Bolton, then he's down for that. So instead of going to stop her, he's going to put himself near her. And by near her, read: between her and Bolton. He might have a little smirk on his face.]

Oh no. That looks fragile. It would be a shame if someone threw it on the floor, huh.

[Yeah, definitely smirking.]

Remember rule 6-A- I would't be surprised if the coffee bar counts as something we aren't allowed to 'modify'.

[Sorry Thomasin, you can hit him if you want- if just for being a unrelated man getting so friendly. But yeah, he's picking her up]

You should let her vent and break it if it makes her feel better. A coffee machine is not a surveillance camera, door, lock, wall, floor, ceiling, computer, air vent, or other structure.

[...yeah, Togami recited the rule from memory...and conveniently left out the 'machine' part. He did notice Bolton's unusual reaction, he's treating someone with...something close to decency? That needs more observing]

[ OH SHE'S THRASHING YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT ]

Let me go! He cares more for that device than all our pain together -- let him lose something he loves!

[Bolton had looked torn, like he was about to reach out and try to stop her himself. But when Xander scoops her up, he hesitates. Almost relieved, though whether it's the intervention on Thomasin's behalf or saving the espresso machine, is up in the air.

But either way, once she's been calmed down he remembers his original plan and quickly exits, chasing Jamie.]

[This time, Margulis doesn't laugh. He stares at Bolton as he follows Jamie, then scoffs.]

A message for the dead? Such temptations are for those who held their tongues in life.

[Send a message. One single, solitary message. No bungles, no backtracks, just a plain, out-in-the-open message. Jane's heart skips a beat, and her face flushes...

...No. No, as if - as if it would matter, even if someone else's life was worth a confession - all it would do is make things between her friends worse. Jane swallows, steels herself against the temptation.]

They...they can't. They're bluffing, they have to be - you can't send a message to the dead.

[It's what she hangs onto to tell herself it's a lie, but her head still dips down and her cheeks are still red.]

Why does that matter? Even if they can, would it really be worth killing someone?

[She's offended again, glaring and shaking her head. But at least she hasn't started yelling this time.]

But it's still - it's worth reminding ourselves it's a lie, no matter what!

Serah... Would you even read it?

Crossing her arms, she looks away from the spectacle that is unfolding around her. No. This motive was cruel. Even moreso than fixing that one single regret. No one back home knows she's even alive anymore. How could the Overseers do this?

With a sound of irritation, she levels everyone with a hard stare.]

You can't send messages to the dead. They'd never get them no matter what these men say.
