Week 5

[In a tragic yet seemingly inevitable turn of fate, the Champions have lost Zombina this week. OsoKaramatsu and Korra, too, are gone, both having fallen in their attempts to help their fellow Champions out of terrible circumstances.

Again, the Champions will find themselves experiencing strange dreams on Sunday night, until they're awakened by C.E.C.E.'s announcement. This is all starting to become routine.]

Congratulations, Champions! By surviving your third trial, you have unlocked the fourth floor of the ship. A new mini map has been added to your P.I.P.!

[The trash compactor is completely shiny and new again. In addition, the profiles on the P.I.P.s still inticate that Karamatsu is dead. Because of course he is, right?

[thomas already knows he won't kill over this secret, as terrible as it is; it probably already was going to come out. even if he lives through what he saw sunday, though, his life as he knows it is over.

while he spent most of the day with manaka forgetting about it, towards the time it would be getting dark in any normal place he's thinking he should at least say goodbye to what he's going to miss- but penny's already there. angry, determined, preparing to finish what akira and kaiba started? he just. watches, not even thinking about waiting his turn, and thinks he's going to have to wait for her to wear herself out before remembering that isn't a possibility. if she does stop, he looks almost like he's been caught, but is ready with the notepad she's seen him with and an apology.]

[She does see him, sooner or later, during the simulation resetting itself.]

Ah- Mister Thomas! Salutations.

[andjerry]

I think she's cheating.

When you're done, I need your help. It won't take long.

[in4apounding]

[O... kay? Not talking. Okay. Probably a sabotage thing.]

She probably is. ...I can take a break now, I don't think I'm making much progress.

[andjerry]

[he sees that look and offers one of his own, paging back to a quick explanation: he's not sick, someone probably sabotaged him Kaiba.]

Do you still want to take me back to Remnant? There's something I really need, if we do that first.

[in4apounding]

...yes. I mean- I don't want you to have to go back to- to that. But coming to Remnant would be the easiest way to do that.

[andjerry]

Wherever I go- I think I'll need your help with something first.

[in4apounding]

Absolutely.

[Zero hesitation.]

What is it?

[andjerry]

You haven't seen my sister yet. We've always been close, she lives next door to me.

She helped him too. A little. Not as much as me.

[in4apounding]

Your- oh. Of course we can bring her too. ...Ohana.

[andjerry]

[he looks at her confused about the last part Carol was Too Old for Disney in 2002, but is obviously relieved, a real smile on his face]

She deserves this chance more.

Can I show you what we need to do? Some of it's a little confusing.

[in4apounding]

[Let Penny show you the most beautiful movie she's ever seen, Thomas.]

Okay. Do you want to use the simulator to do it?

[andjerry]

[he nods and finally seems more relaxed than he's been in days, hesitantly pushing buttons to get his own earth, a far enough away view that Penny might be able to have an idea of a region of a world to look up maps for. it centers on a drive down to what looks like nowhere, a view of a lake coming up through a early evening evergreen forest breaking into civilization. at the nearest edge, there's a squat collection of apartment buildings, and he nods. here.]

Second floor. We have a connecting door.

[in4apounding]

[She nods, looking carefully at the map and the buildings.]

Second floor, got it. ...Is there a spare key or anything? I wouldn't want to break in if I didn't have to.

[andjerry]

I can let you in. I'm not going to make you do this by yourself. You don't know her.

[there's a flash for a few moments of the "her", a black-haired girl a few years older than Penny. the dark makeup and defiant eyes and leather coat make her seem as if she could be much older, but she looks enough like Thomas despite the attempt at hard edges that it has to be her.]

[Yes, you'll totally be doing this together and no one kind of forgot that for a second.]

She looks a lot like you. ...So then we tell her what we're doing, right?

[andjerry]

[he nods rapidly, encouraging her]

If she doesn't want to come with us, we're taking her anyway. There's a good chance we might have to.

[in4apounding]

Oh! Oh. I see.

[Not quite what she expected, but she'll roll with it.]

Don't worry, I'm certain I could incapacitate her without harming her.

[andjerry]

Thank you.

[Carol knows like Becky knew, like he knows now, that it isn't safe, they know too much. but like the him that he saw Sunday morning, she might decide that her death's worth it. and it isn't.]

We might have to go somewhere else as well. It might be more dangerous, and it's difficult to get there.

[in4apounding]

...something to do with him, right. The one who made you kill those people.

[andjerry]

[instead of a note this time, his response is a shamed slouch, and he spins the room around them to head further into town, eventually down a side street outside a building that looks about as low-rent as the rest of that part of town.]

She owns this place. I help her out when it's open, but this is her bar.

I'm going to have to take you inside to show you the locks. If he's there he'll know what's going on. [at that last, his slouch deepens: he's leaving something else to a kid.]

Mister Thomas-

[She's probably missing the deeper parts of his body language here, but she gets the gist, she thinks.]

[She puts a gentle hand on his shoulder.]

It's okay. I won't let him hurt you or anyone else. ...stopping monsters is what I was built for.

[andjerry]

[he isn't afraid for himself, or at least that's what he insists on believing. at "monsters", though, there's a soundless protest before he realizes that one, Penny can't hear him, and two- she's really right. he loves a monster if he doesn't think carol's safe with him, and he knows she isn't.]

I should have done this years ago. Before she got involved. I'm sorry I'm bringing you in now.
