Week 5

[In a tragic yet seemingly inevitable turn of fate, the Champions have lost Zombina this week. OsoKaramatsu and Korra, too, are gone, both having fallen in their attempts to help their fellow Champions out of terrible circumstances.

Again, the Champions will find themselves experiencing strange dreams on Sunday night, until they're awakened by C.E.C.E.'s announcement. This is all starting to become routine.]

Congratulations, Champions! By surviving your third trial, you have unlocked the fourth floor of the ship. A new mini map has been added to your P.I.P.!

[The trash compactor is completely shiny and new again. In addition, the profiles on the P.I.P.s still inticate that Karamatsu is dead. Because of course he is, right?

[On Sunday, Max returns to the kitchen as per his usual habit, to make everyone food. But Kaiba was right - that little...breakdown or whatever he had on Friday means there's still plenty left over. It's not as good as fresh ones, of course. But it saves some time, and he wants to go check out the new floor too, so he'll make his usual rounds of the rooms and then head upstairs.

He'll be around on the fourth floor, poking around the new areas. The infirmary gets his particular attention, and you can find him gathering up basic first-aid materials to bring back downstairs with him.

Later, there's a sign up outside the art room door - PAINTING CLASS/PARTY. Max is in there with a few extra easels and palettes set up; not quite enough for everyone, but he doesn't really expect everyone to show and definitely not all at once.]

[He's still a little exhausted, but art time seems like a fun idea]

...yeah, I guess.

[He doesn't really seem to actually be working on a painting of his own right now; he's sketching something in his book that he flips shut as soon as he hears someone approaching.]

You here for knockoff Bob Ross time?

I'm always down for Bob Ross. Did you know he's really popular in Japan?

...actually, as soon as that came out of my mouth, I thought I was gonna have to explain the reference. Seriously?

Yeah. My mom has a bunch of his DVDs- dubbed, of course. Even nowadays he pops up in ads or someone will name drop him in a show. Or reruns.

Wow, that's actually really cool! Happy little trees for everyone! I dunno if I can really live up to his standards, man, I gotta tell you.

He has a very nice voice. Good to listen to while I'm practicing my English.

[He sits at a easel and does the little finger frame he did before when they were talking art.]

Oh, totally, stuff like that’s great for learning languages. Do you ever follow along, or just listen?

[Of course Manaka shows up. She doesn't even say anything to Max at first, just picks her spot and sits at one of the easels, looking typically cheerful.]

Hey, Manaka! Wanna paint something in particular, or are you just gonna kinda go with the flow?

Mm, good morning! I'm not sure yet, but... I think I'll just see what comes to mind this time.

[There weren't any pretty landscapes in her memories last night, this time.]

Alright. I was gonna lead like, kinda a guided thing or something. You know Bob Ross? Akira says he's popular in Japan, but yours is a different one...

Ah, yeah, I know of him. My family hasn't ever watched him much, though.

[Maybe not a surprise, given everything she's said or implied about her upbringing.]

That's surprising.

[It is not at all surprising.]

He does landscape stuff. Lotta trees.

Hm, do you think so? You don't sound very surprised, though.

[They're joking, right? This is how jokes work??]

Mm-hm, I know that much. I'll have to think of some nice landscapes to draw, then!

Gosh.

[This can be a joke...?]

Here, we'll paint trees together. They'll be happy, you can tell 'cause they're pine tress and those are super easy to paint!

[Jamie somehow looks even worse than he did at the after party, like this time he didn't get enough sleep and just barely managed to drag himself out of bed...but he's here and ready to paint if he can just manage the energy to do it.]

......Jesus, J, did you sleep?

Technically. [An hour and a half of sleep counts as sleep, right?]

Jamie. C'mon, dating the coffee man doesn't mean you get to run on caffeine alone.

[He chuckles weakly.] It's fine. I'm...I'm fine. Just some bad dreams, that's all.

[Bad dreams. Bad memories. A little of column A, a little of column B.]

...do you wanna not, with this? Just go sit down or something?

No, I'm- [He wants to join in and paint but at the same time the thought of picking up a brush right now makes him borderline nauseous.] ...maybe. I'm sorry.

It's fine, dude. I'm not the one who should be leading people in landscapes anyway, right? C'mon, let's go sit in the library or something, that's quiet.
