Week 3

[Two weeks in, and all at once four people are dead. Chitose, Miki, Lucina, and Tsurugi - whatever the circumstances, however any of you may feel, their rooms are just as empty at the end of the week. If you check your P.I.P.s, you'll find that their pictures on the profile page have gone monochrome.

C.E.C.E.'s morning announcement comes like clockwork on Sunday. This time, though, there's an addendum to her usual message:]

Congratulations, Champions! By surviving your first trial, you have unlocked the second floor of the ship. A new mini map has been added to your P.I.P.! To access the second floor please stand on the teleporter and select the floor you wish to be teleported to.

[In addition to the new floor, the Champions will find that they've gained another memory this week.]

Both. A bit of both. It is the first "real" song I learned. I am not sure how real one would call "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star", but that is the actual first thing I learned to play.

It is a child's song, yes. It is a lullaby of sorts. Would you like to hear it?

[Karamatsu nods, shifting his hand on the frets so he can pluck out a simpler tune.]

[It might be simple, but she likes it. The song is very sweet and definitely something for children. Once again, she claps her hands when he's done.]

[It's probably the one song in the world that literally everyone knows how to play, yet her approval makes him feel a little sheepish regardless.]

Any time. I quite needed something to occupy myself after recent events, and music happens to be one of the ways I do that.

[He plays a few soft chords as he speaks.]

It is nice to talk outside of that trial room. Though you did very well.

Music is a wonderful way to banish worry. [As a royal, even a former one, she's of course had her music practice.

She looks down, folding her hands together.]

I am not so sure about that. All I did was make sure to interject when I thought I had an idea... I do not know what made me think about questioning abilities... It was a shot in the dark. And the idea of stripping down... I hope we do not have to repeat that.

That was all I knew to do, as well. It is not as if I have ever been in a trial before.

[At least, not one like that. He's not sure he'd even call it a real trial so much as some...weird sort of jury of the kidnapped trying to solve a murder mystery.]

It was a good idea, and it turned out to be the right one. Nevertheless, if we had not removed our clothing, we would not have discovered that wound on Tsurugi-san's leg.

[He pauses, feeling his throat tighten a little just mentioning him.]

First we will hope that no one else follows the same path. I do think that the likelihood of wounds pinning down culprits would be harder should this happen again...someone else would not allow themselves to make the same mistake if they truly wish not to be caught.

[It had been awful that it wound up being Tsurugi... he had seemed so kind.]

We have lost too many of our number in the past week... I pray no one else thinks that murder is the only way to escape this. No one will have to hide wounds if they do not attempt to murder another person.

[Please. She doesn't want to condemn more friends to death.]

[That's probably why it hurts so much. They were all kind. Even Lucina and Tsurugi, the technical murderers in this scenario.

Karamatsu nods.]

I can at least...understand why it all happened. Osomatsu and I saw our brothers on that video, before. I was not entertaining such an idea as killing someone, but...the thought of something happening to them did not make it easy to ignore.

[Out of all of them, Lucina hurt Luna the most. She adored the young woman...]

I saw Noctis, and I am assuming Prompto saw the same person in his video. We know he would never be captured easily, so I refused to believe that video was real.

[karappo]

I understand. I assume this Noctis is a friend of yours?

[Or relative, maybe. Seems like a lot of them had relatives threatened...]

Noctis is the man I am to marry when I leave this place.

[So fiance. She's a taken lady.]

Ah! Let me be the first to congratulate you, then. Or perhaps one of many.

[Karamatsu can't help but feel the most distant twince of envy that all Matsunos do, knowing there are people out there destined to be happy and in love. But that's not Lunafreya's problem.]

Thank you. It is an event that many await in my world, even if it's a little embarrassing to say so.

That sounds important...is he of royal descent? Are you both?

I am the former princess of Tenebrae and the Oracle, and he is the king of the kingdom of Lucis.

That is...I am quite alarmed they managed to kidnap you of all people, then.
