[Four weeks in the Starfield Penitentiary and seven people have lost their lives to Blaze Dudely's cruel game. At some point the robots cleaned up the mess left behind and by Sunday the involved rooms (including the fridge) are all clean and free of blood. In fact there's no sign left of any of the deaths that have happened on the ship so far by at least the next day. The only physical signs that people are gone are the empty beds.

On Sunday morning, you may find that you're recovering a a few other things as well - both strange dreams and some new items.

In addition, there's a new set of doors at the end of the corridor, in the space between the infirmary and the exercise yard. Looks like you've got a new wing to explore.]

So...I rate Doctor Caufield's experiment a 7.5 out of 10. It's sweet, but still a little bland.

[ this is honestly a nice distraction from that horrible dream he had. ]

Not exactly? I mean... "best friend's mom" is a weird thing to quantify.

Yeah, she's... she's Chloe's mom. She's cool. Works at a diner back in Arcadia Bay.

I don't think you've ever told me about Chloe, either. Who's she?

Oh, uh... Chloe's my best friend, back home. I hadn't seen her in a while, but I just got back and... thick as thieves, right away again.

Why hadn't you seen her?

My family had to move away up the coast five years ago. Dad's work transferred him.

So...you didn't keep in touch with her or anything?

[helladoptera]

I...

[ She looks down. ]

I didn't think she'd want to talk to me anymore. It was stupid.

Why? You guys were best friends, weren't you?

[helladoptera]

It's...

[ She sighs, and god I can't wait for Before the Storm to joss the hell out of some of this, but... ]

I'm not... I was never really good at confrontation. Like, ever. When I came back to town I didn't even reach out to her for the first couple weeks.

[chides]

[ mako on the other hand is pretty good at confrontation so he doesn't quite understand this. ]

You think she was mad at you because you moved?

[helladoptera]

I think I thought I was. And then I think after a point I got so wrapped up in thinking that that I thought "No way, Chloe has to be angry by now."

[ She looks reflectively at the waffle batter. ]

But she wasn't. She was mad I left, but it wasn't really directed at me. So I just know I can't... I can't let her down again. That's what matters now. She matters.

[chides]

...Yeah.

[ he gets where she's coming from, drifting from your friends and all but having them want you back in their lives anyway. it's kind of a strange feeling, like you don't want to disappoint them. ]

I agree. You're back with her now and you have another chance to make things right again--that's what matters.

Some people would never get that chance again.

[ speaking from experience. ]

[ She... winces a little at that. But she was the one in the wrong, she knows that now. She kind of always feels like that, except with Chloe. ]

Yeah. And no way am I gonna mess this one up, once I find a way back to her.

[chides]

[ he says it with confidence, giving her a small smile. ]
