[With the sudden pirate takeover and the sudden, tragic deaths of the crew, the second week of the Starfield Penitentiary rehabilitation project is off to a rough start. After Price's call for parlay with the pirate captain, he was not seen for the remainder of Saturday but around 10 pm it is his calm but tense voice that makes the time announcement.

[ oof, that's a heavy clap. his eyes widen in surprise at the impact, and he puts his pen down to look back at varric. ]

Not anything that nobody else knows...other than the fact that our powers don't work here. If you haven't figured that out already. I don't remember anyone announcing that at the meetings.

I don't have powers so no. Didn't figure that one out.

Well...okay, maybe some of them work. For example, [ mako ignites a small little flame in his palm before it disappears within seconds ] I can still do some firebending. But not everything. Noctis on the other hand...he can't do anything at all.

That your form of magic then, this fire? [He wondered if Hawke might be faring better than he was. At least she would have her powers. Varric had his words, but without Bianca or any of his other weaponry, he was less useful than he might have liked.]

[ he's never thought of it that way but if it makes sense to varric then he'll roll with it. ]

I've never known it as anything else other than bending, but there's a lot of spirituality involved.

Spirituality. Like... connecting to a sort of spirit world in order to use this m-- bending?

[Shit. Mako had more in common with the Hawke's than he might have thought.]

Sort of? I mean, the spirit world exists, but it's more having to do with the human spirit itself. It's...kind of hard to explain.

[ he's never had to explain bending before. it's...strange. ]

Sounds like most people here call it magic, though.

[And for what it was worth, Varric's shoulders loosened considerably. Whatever had been on his mind quickly disappeared. It might have been a bit much for him, if two people from very separate worlds looked the same and bore the same sort of magical origins.]

[ mako notices the little shift in varric's posture. he can't help but wonder what that's about, but decides not to call him out on it. instead, he simply shakes his head, folding his arms across of his chest. ]

No. I hate to admit it, but Blaze... He has control now. And I'm not gonna be able to take him down with whatever bending I have now. I don't think any of us could.

[Blaze had been picking at their numbers, but thus far they'd held strong in the face of his offer. That had to mean something.]

We just have to stick together, that's all.

Plenty do. It's just a matter of making the rest see past their own egos. [A pause, then a grin.] Without torture, even.

Not really. Although [Something dark glimmered in his eyes.] Blade Dickley isn't an inmate, now is he?
