Week 1

[After the initial introduction of the Overseers on Sunday, the Champions were left to their own devices in investigating the part of the ship they have access to to their hearts' content. However, the doors that Jamie and Bolton came through are locked tight and cannot be unlocked via PIP.

On Monday morning, the same voice that awakened them the previous morning chirps at them again from their PIPs at 7 am on the dot. There's also a pop-up message waiting for them: a notice announcing "office hours" for Bolton in the library and Jamie in the art room every day from here on out.

Enjoy your week, Champions.]

Apparently, any number from 5 or more is good enough! I imagine one to be the main storyteller, and the others to be all the characters...oh, it's sort of like a play, only one where the actors kind of make it up as they go along and change the course of the story! That's probably the best way to describe it!

Headcanon backstory time

I prefer reading to watching plays. Most of the actors become nervous when I join the audience. [A pause] I did know one actor, a long time ago. He was able to convince me to play the part of the Sphinx, for one of his shows.
kininaru: ((and she rattled off all the names))

Oh, a Sphinx! Does that mean that you had to give him a riddle? It's a pretty famous story...

Indeed. [He seems lost in remembrance.] The Actor was not playing the part of Oedipus, though. That was one of his rivals, who was the son of the director. Despite the Actor being much more suited to the role, he was instead given the role of the King, slain beforehand. Still, it came as quite a surprise to that rival when I took to the air, instead of simply closing my eyes and lowering my head as I had done before.

It seems that the Actor had claimed that I was merely a mechanical prop, controlled by levers and hinges with a man inside doing all the work. Still, his deception enabled me to view most of the play without my presence discouraging the actors, so I was certainly not mad at him for it.

It sounds like you must have given him a bit of a fright...I know I probably would have jumped, if I was in that situation!

Still, it sounds like a really fun time! I would have loved to see you, myself, I'm sure you were radiant on stage...

The Actor said so, too. [A wistful sigh] I did enjoy his company. [He glances at the sheet again.] Well, perhaps things here can be different. How exactly do you play this, then?

I've never played it, myself, so I'm not quite an expert! But the manual says that depending on the character type you choose, you get different bonuses and such, and you have to roll a dice to determine the actual numbers...like, I imagine a Knight would get a bonus to his fortitude and such...

Rolling dice? Does the game involve gambling, then?
kininaru: (they'd get like half-chub)

[personal profile] kininaru 2017-02-14 06:55 am (UTC)(link)
Hm...I suppose it involves luck, moreso than gambling! After all, if you want your character to be a wise sage of sorts, it wouldn't exactly be ideal to roll, say, a 2 out of 12 in Wisdom...

The future is truly different, then. I have known humans who would decry this game simply for using dice, and claim that spinners or tops are to be used instead. That is foolish, of course. They are all nothing more than tools to determine random numbers.
kininaru: (they just started swordfighting)

[personal profile] kininaru 2017-02-14 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
How picky...I've never heard of a game that uses a top to spin for numbers, and the only spinner I've heard that does that is Roulette...

Indeed. It is good to know that future people are more sensible in this regard.
