Week 1

[After the initial introduction of the Overseers on Sunday, the Champions were left to their own devices in investigating the part of the ship they have access to to their hearts' content. However, the doors that Jamie and Bolton came through are locked tight and cannot be unlocked via PIP.

On Monday morning, the same voice that awakened them the previous morning chirps at them again from their PIPs at 7 am on the dot. There's also a pop-up message waiting for them: a notice announcing "office hours" for Bolton in the library and Jamie in the art room every day from here on out.

Enjoy your week, Champions.]

Pottery... [It makes... no sense to her.] Everything is made by machines where I'm from.

And what if those manufacturing machines fail? [He can believe in things being made by machine, but still.]

[personal profile] bylight 2017-02-16 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
That's hard to do. They have people and monsters around for 24/7 maintenance.

[Cocoon is like a well-oiled machine.]

[personal profile] humanitarianherbalist 2017-02-17 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
Then what work is done by those who do not maintain the machines? [What is a post-scarcity society.]
bylight: (♠ Everything looks different)

[......]

There's plenty of jobs. I'm a soldier. My sister is planning on becoming a teacher.

Yes, I suppose. Still, the position of manufacturers has been taken by those machines. [A pause] Do they produce everything whole? Surely there must be items that have to be assembled after production, at least.
bylight: (• And if you close your eyes)

[personal profile] bylight 2017-02-17 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a few, but it's not that common. It's just how things are back home.

I see. How accessible are these machines? [He sounds genuinely curious.] Can anyone reach them with ease, or are there people who deliver the product to others?
bylight: (♥ Madly different grass there)

[personal profile] bylight 2017-02-18 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
Products are delivered. [Shes never been asked so much details on things like this.]
humanitarianherbalist: ({Speaking})

[personal profile] humanitarianherbalist 2017-02-18 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, he's never heard of a world like that.] I see. So you have never watched an artisan at work? That is a shame.
bylight: (♥ I can see the)

[personal profile] bylight 2017-02-18 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe to you. I doubt I'd have the patience to watch someone make an item for more than five minutes unless it's food.

[personal profile] humanitarianherbalist 2017-02-19 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose that must be expected, eith how your society functions.
bylight: (♥ Don't listen to your friends)

[personal profile] bylight 2017-02-19 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
I doubt my society is the only one that works like that.
humanitarianherbalist: ({Statue headshot})

[personal profile] humanitarianherbalist 2017-02-19 07:45 am (UTC)(link)
[A shake of his head.] Well, my world has no such machines.
bylight: (♥ See the despair behind their eye)

[personal profile] bylight 2017-02-19 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
What kind of machinery does it have?
humanitarianherbalist: ({Professional})

[personal profile] humanitarianherbalist 2017-02-20 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
They are mostly simple. There are those used in manufacturing, but like this wheel, they are intended for people to use alongside their own skills, not to replace the skills of people.

[personal profile] bylight 2017-02-20 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
[That's... definitely not like her world.]

So people spend most of their time working?
humanitarianherbalist: ({Professional})

[personal profile] humanitarianherbalist 2017-02-20 07:02 am (UTC)(link)
Unless they are ill or injured, yes.
bylight: (♥ There is the familiar)

[personal profile] bylight 2017-02-20 07:48 am (UTC)(link)
I see. [So her world is far more relaxed.] What do they do in times of disaster?
humanitarianherbalist: ({Professional})

[personal profile] humanitarianherbalist 2017-02-20 08:46 am (UTC)(link)
It depends. Sometimes, if the disaster is too great, their entire community may fall. If it does not, the survivors may move elsewhere, if the damage is too great. Otherwise, they rebuild on their own, saving what they can.
bylight: (♥ I can see the)

[personal profile] bylight 2017-02-20 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
And there's no government to help out? [Like disaster relief?]
humanitarianherbalist: ({Professional})

[personal profile] humanitarianherbalist 2017-02-21 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
There are authorities. But how they respond depends on how they feel about their subjects, as well as how close they are to the disaster.
bylight: (♥ In my right hand)

[personal profile] bylight 2017-02-21 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[that's messed up] So don't rely on them.
humanitarianherbalist: ({Statue headshot})

[personal profile] humanitarianherbalist 2017-02-22 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
You asked if they existed. As I said, most communities survive or die on their own ability.
