Week 1

[After the initial introduction of the Overseers on Sunday, the Champions were left to their own devices in investigating the part of the ship they have access to to their hearts' content. However, the doors that Jamie and Bolton came through are locked tight and cannot be unlocked via PIP.

On Monday morning, the same voice that awakened them the previous morning chirps at them again from their PIPs at 7 am on the dot. There's also a pop-up message waiting for them: a notice announcing "office hours" for Bolton in the library and Jamie in the art room every day from here on out.

Enjoy your week, Champions.]

Well, your home is so different, of course you'd want to see! It does take a lot of explanation, though, and mostly you end up very confused. But at least they have the artificial gravity on in here, right?

Ah, yes! I was just reading about that.

[He quickly flips through the book, reciting:]

'The most common method for replicating gravitational pull is through rotation. The Centripetal force mimics the effects of gravity by pushing the object outward and against the outer edge of the structure, rather then pulling inwards towards the center.'

...like a ball on a string. I can't say the image is very pleasant, but if it works I won't complain.

Right! It's definitely better than turning the gravity off and just letting everything float all over. Back on the Nadesico, we kept the gravity on all the time, unless we really needed to turn it off.

Speaking of- if you have the time I would like to hear more about the Nadesico. Having practical knowledge of these kinds of ships would be much more useful then reading technical texts.
ratherdoweddings: (i've still a lot to prove)

Oh, sure! Where do you want to start? It was a civilian warship until we were incorporated into the UEAF after our mission to Mars, but if we're not missing memories, that was just very recent. We have a crew of around 214, if I'm not mistaken!

214... gods, it must be massive. I suppose you could tell me about the day to day on it? Does being away from the earth for so long cause problems like being at sea does?
ratherdoweddings: (no matter how much)

A little! The artificial gravity helps, though, otherwise we'd need to exercise all the time and we'd still be practically wasted away when we got back. Nergal outfitted the ship with plenty of amenities, so you can meditate, play table tennis, even have some fun on the holodeck -- oh, that's where you can put on these helmets and see holograms to pretend you're someplace else! We've got some great cooks, too. I could really go for a Mars Bowl instead of those frozen, dehydrated things!

So almost more like a traveling city then a ship... What is a Mars Bowl? Is it good?

It's probably the most popular item on our menu! It's one of the noodle bowls in the mess hall, with beef sauce and octopus-style sausage.

[personal profile] kingshaming 2017-02-16 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
... octopus?!

[He... sorta knows what that is. Heard that Hoshidans ate them, but never tried to think of it too hard]
ratherdoweddings: (that make life more worth living)

[personal profile] ratherdoweddings 2017-02-17 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
It's just called that! It's actually sausage cut to sort of look like an octopus. I don't think beef sauce and octopus really go together, do you?

... oh, a decoration. I see.

[He turns a little pink]

I guess it might be confusing if you're from somewhere that doesn't do it that way!
