Week 1

[After the initial introduction of the Overseers on Sunday, the Champions were left to their own devices in investigating the part of the ship they have access to to their hearts' content. However, the doors that Jamie and Bolton came through are locked tight and cannot be unlocked via PIP.

On Monday morning, the same voice that awakened them the previous morning chirps at them again from their PIPs at 7 am on the dot. There's also a pop-up message waiting for them: a notice announcing "office hours" for Bolton in the library and Jamie in the art room every day from here on out.

[They didn't really have MREs back at the school, thank god, but she had noticed a couple back in the storeroom in the basement. Kurumi places her hands on the back of her neck.]

Surprised they don't have hard tack, too.

[Lightning reaches behind her and tosses the bread packet at Kurumi.]

This stuff is a lot easier to swallow than hardtack.

Is it? I ate a lot of it but we kept the MRIs for emergencies.

[She catches it, opening it.] Thanks.

It's softer, for one. There's jams in the condiments pack... I can see why these would be saved for emergencies. As a soldier, these were our meals when out in the field.

[She nods, eating some more of her own cardboard food.]

[She takes a bite--] It is softer. Man, if I had known I wouldn't have eaten all that hard tack.

[Who would have thought?]

We mainly had canned food, supplemented with veggies. Can't imagine Yuki ever liking this, though.

I think the packaging helps. It's airtight.

[That...]

Is it wartime in your world?

[Kurumi's shoulders hunch just a little.]

Not that I know of. I... I guess it was kind of a cross between a natural disaster and a terrorist attack, maybe. My club and I got trapped in our school for a long time.

[There were things she couldn't keep quiet. Kurumi really couldn't pretend to be a normal student anymore and a few other champions already heard about her world's, ah, problem.]

[Ah... So a disaster zone.]

Your school must have felt something like this would happen if they had stockpiled canned foods, and MRE's for emergencies.

[Still not something she would ever hope a child would have to go through.]

I think so, too. We even found out they had bunkers underneath it. It was advertised as a state of the art modern private high school so we hadn't really thought about how well off it was until we found the bunkers.

[That... that been rough.]

Private schools tend to take the safety of their students more seriously than public schools.

[Because they can afford it.]

[Private schools usually don't make bunkers with literal tons of food stored in them.]

Yeah. Still... Something about it seems a little off even now. I think they knew something like this was coming; you don't prepare like that for a flood or earthquake.

[Maybe the normal ones don't? It could be some super elite private school that tops all the others.]

Knowing paranoia, it could have been their fear of the world ending that started that.
