[Other than the reappearance of the Overseer, there's no real change in the routine. PAL still makes the morning and night time announcements through the PIP on each Champion's arm, and still the Champion unitards are freshly laundered and re-hung each morning in their closets.

No other floors unlock, but Cece and Kip will still be appearing randomly to chit-chat.

[The spilled coffee honestly isn't as interesting to him as what Rhys keeps doing with his hand. Like... what, what even is that Rhys, what are you up to? It's hard to miss the frustration.

So Heart just leans against a wall and... okay he does glance at the stain, but that's it.] ...You seem... agitated.

[ He jumps a little, and again, spills a little bit of coffee. Rhys sighs and looks over at his roommate. Annoyed as he is, Heart's a cool guy. ]

Yeah. I can't access anything from back home.

Access... [He looks Rhys over for a moment.] Ah... Through your arm?

Yeah. That's pretty much the reason I got it--so I could hack into stuff better. I mean, it should be able to pick up something, even if it's weak but...

[ He closes his hand and grumbles. ]

Nothing.

[myocordial]

You... Pardon, you got it for that purpose?

Well, yeah. It cost a lot, but it was definitely worth it.

Right... [Rhys.] Forgive my confusion, it's just... I thought that losing and replacing a limb was something humans tended to avoid.

... Most people do, yeah.

[ Literally everyone other than you, Rhys. ]

It, uh... I had reasons. Big ones.

What reasons are those? If you feel like sharing.

[ Rhys pauses, and he... has to think about whether or not he wants to tell Heart. But, Heart's pretty close to a friend, so. ]

I... wanted to get ahead in the company. Prove myself, more than anything. I figured being good at hacking, and getting an arm that'd help with that, would be a good way to do it.

[myocordial]

[So that's an incredibly goddamn stupid thing to do...

So you did that to yourself as a way to... improve. Becoming better at what you excel at, to reach your goals... [He nods to himself.] I see. Yes, I can understand that.

[ Color him surprised. ]

I'm pretty sure most people here'd think it was weird. Or screwed up.

It is highly unusual. Well, I can't really comment on how this sounds from a human perspective, of course.

But I've always considered self improvement very admirable. Striving to become the best version of yourself is only natural, no? If that takes extreme measures, then so be it.

[So. Yeah, it's weird, but that's not bad.]

I like the way you think, Heart. Have you ever done anything like that, though? Changed a part of yourself in a... I guess, an-- extreme way?

[myocordial]

[There's a... pause. A sizable one, at that. Now this is complicated...]

Not in the same way as you have, no, nothing like that. But that's rather difficult for me.

...But in a different way, I suppose everything about me is an extreme change, considering I'm definitely not like anything I was supposed to be.

You mean, you're not supposed to turn into a badass... whatever you can turn into, or do you mean something completely different?

Both, in a way, though the first only as a technicality. I'm not sure exactly what my creator's vision was, but I managed to reach that form all on my own.

No, I mean more in a... different sense. [...] I wasn't really supposed to be my own person.

[And yet he is. So that's a pretty big change.]

[ Huh. Rhys has to actually crack a grin at that. ]

I bet your creator would have a field day if they could see you, huh.
