The Mock Trial

[Jesse McCree is dead, the first victim of, what the Overseers seem to hope, is a long game of motives and murder for whatever their reasons. With the investigation completed, C.E.C.E.'s voice comes over the system and directs the Champions to proceed to the locked elevator door at the end of the hallway. Once all Champions are on board, the elevator begins a slow descent down beyond any area that they've been able to explore so far. At least the elevator music is charming.

When the elevator door opens, the Champions enter a courtroom with 21 podiums arranged in a circle and each one marked with a name. McCree's face grins casually at the 20 surviving members from one of the podiums, a greyscale portrait in honor of the dead.]

Congratulations. We have now entered the trial portion of the test. I trust that you will do your best to determine who disturbed the peace by committing murder. Once the culprit has been found, they will face an appropriate punishment for their crime. If you fail to determine the culprit, however, they will be allowed to leave the space station and the rest of you will face punishment instead.

Or that they handled the body in some way.

That's what I'm thinking myself. They left blood on the wall trying to get to the ladder, and then left blood on the ladder, most likely while they were climbing down to leave the room.

I measured it out, actually...

Given the momentum needed to travel in zero g, anyone could have pushed off from anywhere, couldn't they, and have left the blood where they just so happened to land?

If that was the case here, there wouldn't be smears near the top of the ladder. They'd be elsewhere. However, most of the blood up on the walls was centered there, then on the rungs.

...Actually, I wanted to ask you, since you measured the smears up there, did they look hand-sized...ish?

[He holds up a hand--yeah, one still with some of the blood he'd initially wiped from his face--which is pretty human-sized. (And yes he's very annoyed to be here without a shower or even just like two minutes under a faucet thanks for asking.)] Yes.

[NO HE IS NOT A DOG HE IS A PERSONHOG HE TAKES SHOWERS AND SCRUBS BEHIND HIS EARS LIKE EVERYONE ELSE]

The amount of blood floating in the room was plentiful enough, although the rod in him would have plugged the wound. Even if someone handled the body for whatever reason, would they really have gotten that much blood on them and been sloppy enough to smear it everywhere?

Depends, but there's the fact that blood doesn't clot right in zero gravity. Its pretty reasonable that they impaled him and got a decent amount of blood on their hands doing it - the rod was covered in blood and bits.

In that case, they would either have blood on themselves or their jumpsuits...

... Do we have multiple jumpsuits with us? I haven't worn them since I first woke up so I haven't been paying attention to them.
