[That certainly was a rude awakening. The champions may have lost their nun and their Doctor but they've gained two very important things: freedom from the simulation they've been living in for the past several weeks and a demoted Xander. Some of them may still desire his head on a plate but, like it or not, he is one of them once more.

There's no sign of life in the spaceport aside from PAL's omnipresent voice and SIS, the helpful asSIStant who has some control over certain heres and theres in the spaceport. She is available at all times and can appear anywhere if called.

The only area unexplorable so far are the double doors by the laundry room. They're locked tight and no amount of kicking or warpstriking will open them. But perhaps they'll open in due time.]

I came out to unlock this door. Because I knew that if I hid from you much longer, either Xander would remember me and I would be convicted in the court of public opinion before I could present my side, or you would find me and nothing that I could do would convince you that I wasn't working against you.

I was employed to monitor Xander. His death, fortunately temporary as it was, essentially voided my contract.

And are you also here to help us out of here, or are you hoping we do it first and you get a free ride?

I am an ally. Not a fellow Champion. But I will be able to provide access to other parts of the spaceport for you. I have not had the opportunity to explore, since Xander was here while he was in the simulation with the rest of you. But perhaps we can find something that will be to all our benefit.

You understand that this also means you're not an Overseer. You're exempt from all the rules. We don't get punished for harming you, and there's no trial if you die.

Just so we're clear on that point.

There's more of the spaceport you can open for us? I don't suppose there are any ships we can pile onto? We need to find out. Now.

If anything happens to me, I do not anticipate that EP will be eager to open up more of the spaceport in my place, so I wouldn't recommend it unless you wish to stay in this small area.

From the map that I have seen, there are four main concourses, each with twenty-two to twenty-eight gates. I cannot imagine that they would have been so remiss as to simply leave a means of escape idling at one of the gates, but I will try to grant you access to the concourses in the event that I've overestimated their intelligence.

What's stopping you from granting us access to everything right at this moment? Sounds like you kinda got run of the place, Doc.

Well, for one thing, the fact you just threatened me with death the minute that I am no longer useful to you does not exactly tempt me.

More to the point, I don't actually have every access code in the spaceport. I am in a better position than you are to acquire them, and I can, but it won't be all at once. I cannot be certain, but I can only assume that some of the concourses' environmental regulatory systems were powered down in order to redirect power to the Virtual Reality.

I would prefer not to search for an exit on my own and leave you completely at the mercy of the PAL unit.

Xander has been demoted to Champion. Look at his arm, he has something that I do not.

Even with no reason to watch over Xander, I am still outside of the PAL unit's jurisdiction.
