Well, I don't really like to brag about it, but... I was a three-time regional champion of the Mistral fighting tournaments.

I was a bit of a celebrity on Remnant.

At your age? Man, you're really going places back home!

Thanks! I think so too! [She smiles just long enough to realize her current situation, and it fades.]

I did so well that I was selected for a special experiment back home by my headmaster... but then it didn't work out.

[motherfucking_ghost]

...Hey, uh, so, in my experience, 'special experiments' don't...usually work out.

No? Well, they do seem kind of... delicate...

[Hmm. quietly munches.]

...I can tell you about it, but it's... sad, and also somewhat complicated.

Sounds like literally my entire life. [Look at the big boy get himself an actual bowl so he can eat a breakfast and not hamfist everything like a dork.] Lay it on me, Hunter.

You must lead a very interesting life as a space soldier.

Well, oh Remant, there was an old fairy tale about four maidens, each one possessing incredible powers involving one of the seasons. I believed it was just a child's tale, magic like that couldn't be real in any way.

[...] And then my headmaster showed me that he secretly had one of the maidens in the academy, and wanted me to inherit her powers.

[motherfucking_ghost]

...Inherit. Like. You can just learn her secret Jedi ways?

There's... a process, that when a Maiden dies, the last girl she thinks of has her powers passed on to her. Half of her powers had already been stolen by an evil woman, so she was near death, and kept on life support while my headmaster searched for a girl he believed could handle the power being manually transferred on to them.

[motherfucking_ghost]

I've told you your world's real fucked up sounding before, right? Cuz it sounds real fucked up.

The more I hear about the state of other worlds, the... more I'm feeling like I should agree with you.

[If she's being one hundred percent honest with herself.]

My world is dangerous, and we're just doing our best to make it better, but sometimes that was't enough. We tried the transfer, but the maiden was killed by the evil woman, who got the full powers from her.

[motherfucking_ghost]

Okay okay, so, this chick was basically dying, and you just like...took...her powers, when she died? And then you became a fairytale princess?

[tokencanadian]

No... I didn't get her powers. The evil woman did. [She taps the table, frowning.] What was her name... I'm not sure. But she was hunting the maiden for years, and already stole half her power. She killed her right there, and took the rest.

[motherfucking_ghost]

Oh damn. So then you gotta hunt down this evil witch to get her powers?

[tokencanadian]

That's exactly what I was trying to do. I ran after her on my own, and tried to bring her down. We ended up fighting in the academy's highest tower, she was incredibly strong, but I gave it everything I had...

[She swallows, no cereal, but her own worries.]

The only thing I remember before waking up in space is... getting crushed against a wall by one of her attacks.

...I mean you uh. You seem pretty resilient, maybe you'll get back up again and kick her ass?

[tokencanadian]

...Maybe. [She doesn't sound sure.]

I just wish that I knew for sure. I want to know that everything back home is okay.

[motherfucking_ghost]

I know that feeling. [crunch munch] Fucking cliffhangers, right?

You mean you...? [Small world, huh?]

Oh, no, uh.

I mean. Maybe? Kinda?

But I'm pretty sure I bit the big one and I'm not coming back this time.
