It seems to be talking about the cyclical nature of things, unsurprisingly. That both positive and negative experiences alike will pass in favor of the opposite, and so one should neither be complacent during good times or hopeless in the darker ones. Additionally, it represents not merely standing still and accepting what one is handed by life, but working to improve one's situation and taking an active role in turning a situation around. Adversity being a natural course of one's life, this represents facing it to seek a way to conquer the problem at hand.
