Oh. I guess? The place I was at had pretty normal gravity far as I know. But yeah, beats trying to make weights out of jugs of sauce and running laps around the place.

That's true enough. Especially since you were in the military, right?

Yeah. Basic training and all that good stuff. Running around in suits of armor carrying guns into battle, so on and so forth.

Tell me they at least got rid of the fun run.

I don't suppose that has anything to do with, uh, three-legged races and sack races and stuff?

More like an annual interservice marathon that really doesn't live up to its name. I was only actually in the military for a little while, but I was a space navy brat and went to military school my whole life, so...

Did you drop out or something? Didn't make it?

Oh, no, I actually did really well! The thing is, I ended up with an arms organization, Nergal Heavy Industries. They needed someone to captain a vessel that wasn't tied to the UEAF on a rescue mission for the colonists on Mars who'd been abandoned at the start of the Jovian War. I was born on Mars and lived there as a child, so I couldn't say no.

So you sorta went freelance. For the good of your people and all.

Something like that! Except then, things got really, really complicated.

What with the war and everything?

Something like that. We... couldn't save them. We actually made things worse. And when we got back, we'd been folded into the military by force and had to go around doing missions for them for a while.
