Week 2

[It's been about a week since the Champions woke up in their new consumerist hellscape of a temporary home and, despite a few odd goings on and the bomb incident with Church and Nari, things haven't been as bad as they could be. No one is even dead yet! But let's see how long that lasts.

You've been practicing hard, haven't you? Did you ever make chocolates like that at home?

I didn't cook complete dishes often, but I always enjoyed making sweets!

[well one good step in that direction would be, say, not running off to get herself killed]

What sort of sweets? You probably have different kinds in your world than the ones we had back home.

We do have quite a wide variety. Some of the desserts here are familiar, such as cookies and ice cream, but for example I just recently learned of a very unusual dessert called "yokan."

[ Yuuri blinks at her, looking a little taken aback. ]

You've never had yokan?

[ SHE'S SHOOK ]

Not until very recently. The chef Apicius had developed a walnut yokan from ingredients available in the Labyrinth.

...is it a common dish where you are from, Rii-san?

It's common enough -- it's actually more of a dessert than something you'd eat by itself, though.

[ Not that it stops some people from doing it anyway, of course. ]

It might've been a bit different from the sort of yokan your friend made, though. What did they make it with, apart from walnut?

There were a number of things involved, but the main ingredients were walnuts and an extract from sugar beets.

--and sadly Sir Apicius was not my friend, as he lived centuries ago.

[ Ah, that teaches her to go assuming. She can't help but smile, though. It seems very Arianna to continue calling a long dead chef Sir. ]

It sounds like it's the same sort of thing, then. That's so strange to think though, isn't it? Our worlds are so different but somehow we end up with the same sort of food in each one.

The same sort of people, and the same sort of food. Perhaps our worlds are not as different as we believe.
