Week 2

[It's been about a week since the Champions woke up in their new consumerist hellscape of a temporary home and, despite a few odd goings on and the bomb incident with Church and Nari, things haven't been as bad as they could be. No one is even dead yet! But let's see how long that lasts.

Enjoy your week, Champions.]

(( Also, don't forget to submit your AC and item rolls! You can also bother your Overseer here. ))

Isn't it just? It's not like we're children who need to be told where to go.

[ ... well, maybe Arianna-- okay, that's mean ]

Besides, what sort of trouble are we expected to get into? Most of the shops shut at night, don't they?

It's ridiculous. Robotic guards too, of all things...

[What next, are they gonna appoint the roombas as guards too? Let's just throw in all simpler machines for this, why not.]

Yes. And I was under the impression that trouble was encouraged. But now suddenly it's a problem if we wander around.

It really is sending a bit of a mixed message. The only thing it really seems to do is make it a bit harder to go to the bathroom at night. Maybe it was just so boring when we were all asleep, they decided to spice things up a bit.

[ Someone's got to be reviewing all that security footage, after all. ]

[personal profile] myocordial 2018-02-20 01:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe. Or maybe it's just a spiteful thing, since we're not "playing along" the way they'd like. I wouldn't put it past them.

[personal profile] serrata 2018-02-21 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Neither would I.

[ She folds her arms across her chest and peers up at the nearest camera, eyes narrowed. ]

It makes you really think, though. Who exactly is 'them'?

[personal profile] myocordial 2018-02-21 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
People who are going to meet a very unpleasant end when this is all over.

[And he hopes they're hearing that, whoever and wherever they are.]

...Whoever they are, however, it seems they don't have a lot of faith in our Overseer.

Not very much at all. And... I want to take that as a good thing for us but it makes me a little concerned, too.

[ The sass from before is gone and now her voice is softer and more thoughtful. ]

Why let him do this for them if they don't have any faith in him?
myocordial: (047)

[personal profile] myocordial 2018-02-21 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
It's difficult to say knowing nothing about them, but...

If they truly don't have any faith in him, I doubt they would let him do something actually important. Either they feel they have this under control enough that it doesn't matter what Xander does, or perhaps they don't actually consider this important.

[...Neither is good news for them, but he knows which option he'd put money on.]

Either way, I expect he's just as much of a pawn to them as we all are.
serrata: (r040)

[personal profile] serrata 2018-02-22 10:42 am (UTC)(link)
Either way, it's a little scary to think about.

[ She gives him the faintest hint of a smile and then goes back to staring down the camera, like she might be able to get an answer from it if she intimidates it enough. ]

Maybe he's just disposable. I mean... if something happens here and someone managed to get the jump on an Overseer, they wouldn't want to risk sending someone actually important. Right?
myocordial: (041)

[personal profile] myocordial 2018-02-22 12:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I think he's very much disposable. The odds are definitely not on our side in a fair fight, but being taken by surprise is always an option. He's hardly invincible, even with the extra tricks he has on his side.

[He glances at his PIP for a moment. Yeah.]

No, I don't think they really care if he dies here.

[ Yuuri's lips purse tight. That idea stirs a complicated sort of feeling in her chest. It's not sympathy, exactly -- she sure as hell doesn't have any sympathy for Xander, after everything he's done. But the idea of him being promised something precious enough to damn this many strangers in return, only for him to ultimately be no more important than the rest of them?

It says something about his employers and Yuuri's not sure she likes the implication. ]

Do you think they have even more people like him, lined up to take over if something happens? Even more people so desperate they'd agree to run something like this?
myocordial: (059)

[personal profile] myocordial 2018-02-26 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
...It wouldn't surprise me. There's never any shortage of the desperate, if you really look. Finding those who would agree to something like this from there wouldn't be difficult.

I've seen plenty of people in my time who would jump at the chance.
serrata: (r130)

[personal profile] serrata 2018-02-27 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
... I think I can understand. As much as I hate to say it.

[ She swallows hard and then lifts a hand to her mouth to start nibbling at the skin around her thumbnail, so her next words come out muffled. ]

If I knew something had happened to Ruu-chan and someone just turned up one day and somehow they could just make it all go away... it makes me wonder just what I'd be able to talk myself into doing.

[personal profile] myocordial 2018-02-27 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
...Everyone has something they're willing to do terrible things for. What it is and just how far they'd go differs, but... There is always something.

I've been at the level of desperation before where I might have considered it, even if everything about this goes against everything I believe in. [Not for one person, not ever. But for 108? Maybe.] ...I don't think I ever would.

But we don't always know ourselves as well as we like to think.

[ Yuuri goes very, very quiet at that. Unsettlingly quiet, perhaps. Even her expression goes a little distant and it seems, for the moment, like she's not going to respond.

But then she gives a soft huff of bitter laughter. ]

I suppose we don't. Especially not with almost an entire year gone.
