[After the reveal of their handsome and well-dressed but stern-looking Overseer on Sunday, the Champions were left to their own devices in investigating the mall to their hearts' content. At around 10 pm every night the lights in all the shops will go down and the sturdy metal grates over the doors of the restaurants will go down. The stores will remain unlocked, though.

On Monday morning, a buzzing alarm chirps at them again from their PIPs at 7 am on the dot. There's also a pop-up message waiting for them: a notice announcing Xander will be holding office hours

[ So.... it takes a little while, but after seeing Junpei's note, Noctis knows he has to do something. So. He looks around at the different restaurants, and he gathers up a few things. Some particularly good cuts of meat. Some breading. And, shockingly, tomatoes.

There are ingredients for something sweeter, too, though when he finally makes it to an over, he looks... puzzled. ]

... Wonder how you make a chiffon cake.

[ He's hard at work, but he won't mind some company. ]

[He and Noctis have talked all of twice now. Therefore, they're practically best friends, and that means that Varric can stick his finger in the batter Noctis is working with.]

Needs more sugar, Kid.

[ He grimaces a little. Varric, please!!! ]

Hope those hands are clean, Wordsmith.

You could bathe me in the healing light of Andraste herself and these hands would never be clean. [He dips the other finger and takes one last taste.]

[Hey Noct. So. Fukawa isn't big on baking herself-- there are plenty who can do it better. But she's been trying little things here and there. And earlier she got a cafe uniform. Seems like as good as anything to wear for a little baking experience.

Y-you might be able to find a recipe around here. Most of the stuff the places make have been written down...

[ Oh. She's wearing a uniform. Noctis gestures to it, then gives her a thumbs-up. ]

You're rocking that outfit. [ BUT ANYWAY. ] I was hoping to find a recipe, but uh... no luck yet. Maybe I just didn't look hard enough.

Fine. I'll take a look... y-you're not putting the tomatoes in it, are you?

[Noctis she swears she's unfriending you already if that's your plan. And she's pointedly ignoring that compliment because stop!!! Don't embarrass her. Or you're getting cake batter flung at you when it's time.]

Wh-what's it for, anyway?

Nope. I'm not gonna ruin a cake like that.

[ He rolls one of the tomatoes along the counter. ]

... It's, ah. I found out the date from Junpei. I missed one of my best friend's birthdays, so... I'm making some of his favorite stuff.

[That's... a pure answer. There are all kinds of ways to cope with missing people, especially on important days.]

W-well if there's anything like it here i-it'd be in the Dairy Empress. I don't know a lot about cakes but...

[Y'know. If you want her help, she'll try.]

Yeah? Well... I don't want to mess this up, even if he'll never try it, but.

[It's kind of been a weirdly quiet day, like a calm before the storm, but there is one thing Jane knows makes days like this better - some cozy pajamas. After getting them from Touko, she's been inspired to wear them today, and it's in this getup in which she finds Noctis mulling over-]

Chiffon cake...?

[Do you need help? With cake? Cake help?]

Ah, yeah.

[ He gives her a smile, because he always has one of those for Jane. ]

If a talented baker like yourself could give me a hand, I'd be forever in your debt.

There'd be no debt to repay - I'm happy to help. Have you ever made chiffon cake before?

Hah, if you're sure.

[ He shakes his head. ]

I'm... not too big on baking.

Positive.

[She nods understandingly. Alright, she can work with this. This being Noctis.]

Hopefully they're the same thing where you're from as they are where I'm from, but the key to chiffon cakes is that they use vegetable oil, not butter - and you've got to beat egg whites until they're stiff and foamy so the cake is light and fluffy. And that last part can be kind of frustrating.
