[After the reveal of their handsome and well-dressed but stern-looking Overseer on Sunday, the Champions were left to their own devices in investigating the mall to their hearts' content. At around 10 pm every night the lights in all the shops will go down and the sturdy metal grates over the doors of the restaurants will go down. The stores will remain unlocked, though.

On Monday morning, a buzzing alarm chirps at them again from their PIPs at 7 am on the dot. There's also a pop-up message waiting for them: a notice announcing Xander will be holding office hours

Had them for most of my life. Then one day I wake up in a strange place and find that, somehow, they're gone and my ears look they've been without anything in them for months.

I'd ask how something like that happens, but at this point? It's the least of my concerns.

Ah. [ He shook his head. ] I'll be honest, I took some time for myself. Mostly tried to come to terms with the fact that I'm thousands of years out of my element.

Yeah, I don't blame you. It kind of devolved into ragging on Ardyn, anyway, but when we weren't being snickering assholes, the possibility--or really, the likelihood--that we're missing memories came up. A few months seems to be the common guesstimate.

[He could see why Ardyn might have rubbed people the wrong way, but Varric hadn't had a problem getting along with him. Hell, maybe they'd even gotten on a little too well.]

Seems about right. But why make us forget at all? That's what I want to know.

There's a whole host of possible reasons. To make it hard for us to work together. To make it hard for us to understand why we're here. To make it hard for us in general, period. To mess with our heads. I can't give a definitive answer until I know what it is we've forgotten, you know?

And... [Varric did his best to keep a note of playful curiosity in his voice. He didn't want to start giving away his own alliances.] What is he lying about?

Anyway, Ardyn's lying about not being a supervillain. Badly. Seriously, he-- [Snicker.] --he started calling us mortals. Can you believe that?
