Week 1

[After the reveal of their handsome and well-dressed but stern-looking Overseer on Sunday, the Champions were left to their own devices in investigating the mall to their hearts' content. At around 10 pm every night the lights in all the shops will go down and the sturdy metal grates over the doors of the restaurants will go down. The stores will remain unlocked, though.

On Monday morning, a buzzing alarm chirps at them again from their PIPs at 7 am on the dot. There's also a pop-up message waiting for them: a notice announcing Xander will be holding office hours

What... but they... he....

[Xander is the Overseer. He's cold, efficient, clearly dedicated to his job and not the least bit attached to any of them. But at the same time, Soma remembers sadness in his eyes, a strange sort of melancholy. His brain can't reconcile the two images of the man.

Finally, he marches over to Xander's door and bangs on it every few seconds for a good two or three minutes.]

Should this be your priority?!

[Togami would have grabbed Soma by the shoulder if they hadn't met just four days ago]

There are two injured people here!

[Togami just brought a couple stretchers, and that's the extent of his contribution. Looks like in general things are turning out to be...not as disastrous as they could be?]

I'm not crowding the people who know what they're doing! What I can do is try to get some damned answers!

[He's clearly shaking, and with the way he's got his teeth clenched it's clear that there's something abnormal about them, though Togami won't be able to see exactly what.

He's just glad Church's wound is cauterized and that Nari doesn't seem to be bleeding.]

Do you really think he's going to answer anything right now? Stop being stubborn before he comes out of that office to do to you the same he did to them!

[Or...something else. Who knows what else Xander can do, but the more injured people there are, the worst it'll be for everyone as a whole]

[It takes every ounce of his self-control not to turn on Togami and snarl at him. He can feel a growl fighting its way up his throat. At least he stops banging on Xander's door, but his fists are clenched at his sides and he's clearly struggling.]

I hate this. I hate feeling helpless, I hate that I don't know what he's thinking, I hate that--

[That I'm putting you all in danger just by being here.]

Do you even care what he does to me?

[Togami seems rather conflicted. If he tells the truth -- no, he doesn't care about Soma -- then Soma may get reckless and get himself killed, which is pretty bad. If he lies and says he does, then Soma will realize it's a lie and it'll get worse.

Is silence an option?]

[Silence is always an option, but in Togami's case, it leads to nothing positive. Soma sighs and turns away.]

Yeah, that's what I thought. You look out for number one, just like Nari. Just... don't try to kill anyone and we won't have a problem, understand?

As long as you don't do anything stupid.

[Buuuut it seems Soma's not about to try to ram down Xander's office door. That's good enough for today.

Togami retreats]

I'm sure you have your own broad definition of what "stupid" is.

[Yeah, he's muttering again because he's pissed off. Togami needs a good swift kick in the ass, or maybe he'd like to see how he matches up against a horde of demons. Too bad Soma can't send him to the castle to flounder around, it'd be amusing....

No. No. He's not going to think like that. Soma digs his nails into his palm to break his swiftly darkening chain of thought, taking a few deep breaths before he goes to check on Church.]
